Your bast sounding albums
Now this isn't neccessarily about your favourite albums that contain your favourite songs but albums you think where the band got the right sound.
I'll start off with Megadeth and Metallica. In regards to Megadeth for years they had a fuzzy thrash metal sound. They always seemed 1 or 2 albums behind Metallica in terms of the sound they put out but for me things started to change when Marty Friedman joined. Rust In Peace still had the fuzzy sound but it was getting there. Countdown to Extinction was almost there. Youthanasia was the peak for Megadeth imo. Not only did they get the right sound it was probably their most famous album containing several hits. Metallica were similar with the Black Album. Many would say that was their peak, but in guitar sound I actually prefer Load. I think again that they progressed from their early albums and nearly improved with each on, although I would swap Master of Puppets and ...And Justice for All. I think AJFA was too tight and compressed. Pretty sure Hetfield and/or Ulrich have said the same. |

If I can talk about pop albums in this thread, then I'd have to mention Chasing Lights by The Saturdays. They had it so right with that album. Their sound and image was just right. The album was pure pop and they had a very squeaky clean image and I loved the idea of the coloured dresses. It was fresh and different from other girl group albums and it was a very strong debut. Then they messed up with their second album (Wordshaker) by releasing the wrong lead single and trying to change their image and that album flopped badly. They almost had it right again with Headlines and then with On Your Radar they tried to do the dance thing and it didn't seem to work. Now they're still doing the dance thing. Their latest single is rather generic sounding and they really need to go back to the sound they had for their debut album.
