This really is a good offer TV/Boadband/Line Rental/24/7 Calls for £20pm.
I get only evening/weekend calls and only up to 8mbs speed with post office for about £30pm! I wonder if they would give me the same offer as yours for £20pm. Although our exchange is unbundled I have never been with TT before. All the scary horror stories I have heard about it put me off until now! I was considering them in the past but £50 installation fee put me off for something I can set up in probably 5 minutes ![]() Now this charge's gone it is really tempting. Are you happy with the picture quality of PVR? Is it reliable? I have used all top PVRs in the past Humax/Topfield/Panasonic but never heard of Huawei before. The U.S.a don't trust them as they think they may be spying for the Chinese government as they have close ties to the Chinese government. True or not I don't know, but it would not surprise me. I got one of their mobile phones and to be honest it is a load of junk. i only had one Humax, which was a single tuner affair and to be honest it was a good box, had some strange niggles, but it worked ok. i know someone who was interested in getting Youview and they thought by now that they would have put the system into a freesat box as they can't get DTTV very well, but that have not happened and youview don't seem to be in any rush to do so. Still expensive bit of kit to be honest if you have to buy it, I wonder how many have been sold? |

So you are paying more then? it is ok saying they added 6 calling features, but do you use them, do you need them?
it's the same with this YouView I decided to have it because it sounds good for the money and the box and installation was free. I no longer drink or smoke so paying £54.57 a month for these 2 services is not too bad as I use to spend £80 a weekend on going out and on takeaways

Huawei is a Chinese company that supplies all of Talk Talk equipment and also supplies most of Bt equipment inside the cabinets.

Not only do they charge heavy activation fee for Humax Youview box but also customer has to take a TV package. At least with talk talk there is no activation fee or any requirement of buying any TV package. Exactly what it says on the tin Freeview Box without having to buy any TV package. The only problem with Talk Talk box is that it is unknown. By the way your friend can get Youview version of Freesat box. I think Humax's latest box calls it freetime or something but it is there so no need to get Freeview for youview if he can't get good signal. He can always buy a freesat version box. |

Everything is working fine and no issues with the box at all. She hasn't paid for any 'extras' but has been watching the free boxsets available. I've got a Huawei 3G dongle (unlocked from 3) and a 3G wireless hub (unlocked from T-mobile) and both are faultless. |

Good to see no issues with the box at all, very promising! Do you know how watching on demand affects the speed? I guess it goes down when box is used for watching free boxsets then goes back up to normal speed maybe 16mps?
Thanks for the links very good reading and I like the idea that Talk Talk box is fanless so it should be nice and quiet in operation. But do you know the actual size of Hard Drive? One of the link says Huwei box is 320Gb the other one says 500gb! |

It is 320Gb, but the box automatically deletes the oldest recordings (unless you archive them) so that there is always room to record something new.

I read somewhere on a spec sheet it is 320Gb and good for 180 hours recording in SD.
But apart from the above different hard drives, 'under the hood' both boxes are the same. And so are they're operating systems too. I've read quite a few reviews on both YouView boxes, and they have all come back as both boxes are an absolutely solid piece of kit. And BT have now started giving them away too, and are also now offering them to ADSL users. Though they are not yet advertising such. If both companies continue such a strategy, the amount of new users they could get could be, lets say, significant. |

Take my Lovefilm subscription, I don't seem to use it as often as I used to and mainly use netflix, I feel like while it is only a few quid a month it is money wasted. |

If it was Humax box Talk Talk was offering I wouldn't hesitate but with unknown names like Huwei there could be software/reliabilty issues etc. I wouldn't want to end up with a box that's ridden with bugs.
i presume Huawei must be reliable otherwise Bt would not use them unless they got such a good they could not ignore it. While i don't like Bt as a company, after going around Madley Earth station, I have to admit that some of the technology was impressive. Quote:

Maybe it is a more sustainable package and Bt have done the calculations and found out that si the best they can do and still give you a service that works.Quote:

I will stick by what I have said before, nothing is free and it is paid for one way or the other, even if not directly with money. if not enough people subscribe then Talk talk will have to get their money else where and may put their prices up. You can't give away stuff unless you are going to get something back, i know sky does it with their sky box, locking you into a 12 month contract and to be honest i expected a longer contract with the HD boxes. It is not youview as such, it is something different.

How are you guys getting a free Youview box from Talk Talk?
I was interested in getting one, but looking on their website I have to sign up for a talk talk landline and pay line rental for it, pay for their broadband and for their TV pack on a lengthy contract and the cheapest comes to £30.45 a month? So when you guys say its free is it at least £30.45 a month + any call charges and PPV i incur. Or am I missing something?

Noise747, you slag everything off. You don't like Sky, you don't like BT (never had) and you don't like TT (never have had them either). And you hate TV too. So whats to like, on an IPTV forum where your concerned?
You stick to your stuff, but please just allow other people to stick to theirs. Cheers. i got little against sky, they may be a bit big for their boots sometimes and need to be taken down a peg, but I was even considering them for broadband before i changed to who i am with now. not sure if I would do it now mind you since they are now going to have this spying system in place. As for Bt, again you are wrong, i have had Bt broadband, twice. once in 2000 when we was first able to get it and once about 4 years back, up to about 3 years back. so i know how bad Bt was. you are correct that I have never used Talk Talk, but I have seen the quality or lack of it of their network. I don't hate TV, i just don't find it value for money. people can stick to what they like, but this is a free forum, so if you don't like it, then tough. |

The box is free, over and above any package one signs up for. But nice try. I keep hearing that Talk Talk are giving away Youview PVRs if you sign up for their broadband but when i look on the site... http://sales.talktalk.co.uk/product/...and/essentials Its got broadband and phone for 12 months half price which is £18.20 a month for the first 12 months. But that doesn't mention anything about a free youview box. To get the "FREE" box it looks like I've got to fork out £30.45 for it. If thats the case i'll be spending a lot more each month than I do now so defeats the point of me switching. |

The marketing men have worked out a method that can extract upwards of £100 a month off people and yet they will be left with a feeling that they aren't paying money and that they are getting it for free. It's a kind of marketing hypnosis, its so effective that people once under its spell will try and get friends, family and strangers on the internet to sign up for this Free deal. The companies then will get £100s of pounds extracted from them too. we're all doomed, no one can resist it. It's so powerful.

Just to set matters straight, when you take YouView from TalkTalk, you need to sign up for their Plus Package, which puts you on a line capable of up to 24Mbps (although you will be very lucky if you achieve that speed - but that is true of any ISP). For that you get your line rental, unlimited UK calls from your landline (as long as they don't last more than an hour apiece), a twin tuner Freeview HD PVR with all the catch-up players included, unlimited downloads and TalkTalk's own 'gifts' (mainly US TV series, but 'The Tudors' is in there). You also have the option to extend the package by buying further 'boosts' such as Sky Sports, Movies etc., but this is not compulsory. If you do opt to take any of their 'boosts', you sign up on the TalkTalk website. There is no long term contact (just a month) and you don't deal with Sky at all. One of the catch-up players built-in is Now TV from Sky, which costs money if you elect to use it, but you don't have to.
I could have gone to a retailer and bought a YouView box, but it would have cost me £250-300, I would still need a robust broadband connection and I wouldn't qualify for the TalkTalk gifts or additional packages at all. Despite this, some people are claiming that the TalkTalk offer is a bad deal? I don't think so. I know that their customer services have a poor reputation, gained largely in their early days when they genuinely did struggle to deliver good support. Once earned, a bad reputation is difficult to shake off. I have been with them for years, however, and I honestly have few complaints. My broadband speed averages 10-11Mbs and is reliable. I have the Entertainment Boost, which delivers a typical Sky package (Sky One, Two, Living, Sky Arts, Discovery, TCM - over 30 channels in all) for an extra £10 a month and I can cancel whenever I want simply by clicking the appropriate box on the TalkTalk website. The picture and sound quality of the streamed programmes is much the same as those beamed from the local transmitter on Freeview. Online HD programming is coming. For the person who mentioned being unable to find YouView on the TalkTalk website, did you click on the 'TV, Broadband and Phone' tab? The most critical posts in this thread seem to be from people who openly admit that they are not TalkTalk customers. How qualified are they, therefore, to comment on the current service? Someone who is genuinely dissatisfied with the service he/she is receiving is one thing. Someone who is simply recycling old information, or repeating what they have heard, is quite another. |

Someone who is genuinely dissatisfied with the service he/she is receiving is one thing. Someone who is simply recycling old information, or repeating what they have heard, is quite another. The worse one was when someone was getting less than a megabit and Talk Talk sent their I think they call them Bright sparks engineers around, he took the faceplate off the phone socket, stuck another router on and then vanished, saying he would be back, never to be seen or heard of again. I had to sort it out, tidy up the cables he left lying all over the place, put the cover back on the socket and sort out the routers as the poor person did not know which one they was using. she still got less than a megabit, sometimes it will pop up a bit more, but not very often. she should be getting at least 2-3 where she lives. I did say to her about changing, but she have not done so yet, now waiting for fibre and I think she will change when it comes to her. That is not the only person who have had problems with Talk Talk, and some people just cope with it as they think they will get no better or that it is cheap. Of all the places i have visited that have Talk Tlak and sadly it seems like Talk Talk have told their lies to many people, i have seen two that holds up to what it should be and Neo thinks i should try it before i complain about them, no thank you. No doubt there are a load of people out there that are happy with Talk Talk, as long as nothing goes wrong. if their sales people told people the truth about what speed they could get and trying to make out that they are from Bt, it would be something. I have had many a run ins with Talk Talk and I have never even used them myself, at least Sky do kind of know what they are on about. The youview box may be a good offer, but it may also get people to spend more money on something they don't really need. Look at their essentials package, what is it £6.50 a month, i not including line rental and I am not taking off the discount for 12 months. So £6.50 a month, will give you unlimited Data I know someone who still pays BT a subscription for international calls as they think it saves them money and yet it don't because they don't call international calls enough. People sometimes think they are saving money and they are not. you pay for it in the end one way or another. |
