A pretty good year. I'd say Pyjamarama, Whiskey in the Jar and Amoureuse are all brilliant songs. Others are :

Money - Pink Floyd
Bennie and the Jets - Elton John
Ballroom Blitz - The Sweet
Angie - The Rolling Stones. Plenty of others too.

Ooh La La - Faces
There Goes Rhymin' Simon - Paul Simon
Tubular Bells - Mike Oldfield
Berlin - Lou Reed
Countdown to Ecstasy - Steely Dan
Innervisions - Stevie Wonder
Let's Get It On - Marvin Gaye
Goats Head Soup - The Rolling Stones

Inside Out - John Martyn
The Joker - Steve Miller Band

Thanks VERY much once again, for taking the time to write that list of some fabulous music

Of the songs you listed Rob the ones I like best include:

Showdown
Feel the Need in Me
Brother Louie
Free Electric Band
I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day
Merry Christmas Everybody
Pick Up the Pieces
Can the Can
Street Life
Vado Via

I admit that I often find 1973 a bit mediocre when it comes on Pick of the Pops. However, with the help of the Top 20 Book, I identify these as other 1973 songs I like:-

Status Quo:- Paper Plane / Caroline
Ball Park Incident:- Wizzard
ELO:- Roll Over Beethoven
Stevie Wonder:- Superstition
Timmy Thomas:- Why Can't We Live Together?
10 CC:- Rubber Bullets
George Harrison:- Give Me Love
Medicine Head:- Rising Sun
Ike & Tina Turner:- Nutbush City Limits
Alvin Stardust:- My Coo-ca-Choo
Mud:- Dyna-mite
Cozy Powell:- Dance With the Devil
Leo Sayer:- The Show Must Go On (which might be 1974 but I have always associated this and Dance With the Devil together!)

1973 was one of the best years for music ever. This was the year when the timeless Dark Side of the Moon was released.

I was in my pram so it's a bit hard to have an opinion!

But I am enjoying the thread.

yeah leo was 74 because thats when the single spent most of its chart run in the charts.

ball park incident was 72 for completely the opposite, contradictory reasons! lol... i always associated that with dec 72, dispite the largest part of its chart run being in 73.

its a personal thing

you confuse me! you like all these cheesy pop tracks, but cite that album which takes some listening to, to understand!

personally, i hate it! pretencious crap...

I only started by reading the Top 20 book from January 1973 onwards so would not have noticed Wizzard in the charts in 1972 with Ball Park Incident. I may well start a 1974 thread on Sunday. Watch this space!

The music was all beginning to unravel by '73, epitomised by the release of the very "safe" Dark Side of the Moon by the Floyd, which I bought on release and was very disappointed with. (And the original "Dark Side of the Moon" album by Medicine Head released the year before is much better!)

The experimentation of the late '60s and beginning of the '70s in music and the counter-culture was being replaced by corporate rock and singer-songwriter bland-outs, and the pop pap of "glam" in the UK.

Oh, and there was no Beefheart album either(and when he released two the following year they were the worst of his career).
