Not sure how this is done but followed the guidelines on the BB Desktop Software but somehow, the Mac's email contacts are on the iPhone and the BB contacts deleted, so I can only think that they might be stored on the Mac (no sign of them anywhere though as I did a 'Spotlight' for them.) I did find it odd that the sim didn't have any of the nos. on in the first place.

I'm now stuck as to know what to do, can someone help me as I fear I may have lost my contacts completely!

This isn't really clear what you've done.

Are you moving contacts from BlackBerry to iPhone or the other way around?

Are you syncing the contacts using BlackBerry desktop or via iTunes and another app (e.g. Outlook or Address Book) on your Mac?

Break it down, step by step exactly what you've done, then someone should be able to help.

I'm really sorry ppl for being so indirect. Let me explain in more detail for you.

I sync'd my Blackberry Curve contacts to the Blackberry Desktop Software (on the Mac) but now I can't find where the contacts have gone to as they're nowhere to be found on my iPhone 3GS.The email contacts from the Mac got transferred on the iPhone instead which I find so strange and annoying.

Is there a way of 'retracting' what I've done to the BB as I have no way of finding these nos. again, or by a miracle if there's a chance of getting the original job done in the first place please.

Aren't the contacts still on the BlackBerry? Where does the BlackBerry Desktop Software say it will sync your contacts to?

Grumpyoldbat: no, there are no contacts at all (as in no numbers) just the Mac email addresses (of which they weren't there before) that somehow that got transferred.

On the BB Desktop Software, it was meant to sync to the iPhone but it didn't work for some reason. Maybe this software wasn't the best one for syncing then...

My understanding of what should have happened is...

You sync your BlackBerry to the BB Desktop. If the BB Desktop is linked correctly then it should add your contacts to Address Book on the Mac.

Then when you plug the iPhone into iTunes it should be able to sync all the contacts from the Mac Address Book to the iPhone.

It sounds like the BlackBerry desktop hasn't picked up your contacts. If memory serves correctly you should have set the syncing option to BB > Desktop so that the contacts from the phone copied across.

If your contacts aren't in the BB, the BB desktop, or the Mac address book, it sounds like they've been overwritten.

Is it possible that your contacts were on the SIM card of the BB and they're not showing if you've taken out the SIM from the phone?

have to 'fess up and inform you that I didn't do take part in this myself but my nephew so I'm sorry for being vague here.

He says that he doesn't think it was linked to Desktop correctly and that iTunes wasn't part of the equation as he did it via the Mac Address Book. Somehow, this is where the crux of the problem lies and the whole matter didn't go according to the instructions of the Desktop. If you think that the sim is overwritten, then there's no redress is there, grumpyoldbat?

If he's put the SIM in the iPhone, then the contacts might still be on there (if that's where the numbers were stored), but the iPhone doesn't read contacts from the SIM card, it stores them in memory. Has he tried putting the SIM back in the BlackBerry to see if they're on there?

It sounds like they're gone then. If they're not on the SIM, the BB, the Mac or the iPhone, then they've likely been overwritten.

The only other thing to check is look in the Trash Bin on the Mac and see if there's any kind of file in there that looks like an old backup file for the BlackBerry.

Looked in Trash and alas, nothing - guess that's it then??
