THE MOLE by WILL DEARBORN

...Hecate," said Arthur.

"What a strange name for an owl," said Ginny.

"Yes, well she was scared of the dark, and we usually saw her in the daytime sometimes at night," said Arthur.

Barnaby was awake and was walking over, "did I hear you mention Hecate's name?"

"Yes, apparently they've seen an owl in the night," said Arthur Mole.

"Well no need to worry, friendly birds owls, Hecate was anyway - shame about her phobias..." Barnaby continued.

"Phobias?" asked Ginny.

"Well, the dark," said Barnaby Badger, "she was scared of the dark."

"Un oawl scurred ov zee dak?" said Hermy.

"Yes and heights," said Arthur smiling.

"And err, insects, and bats..." said Boo.

"Poor thing," Ginny wobbled her long neck which shook her head.

"Umm, what did she eat?" asked Bodoing.

"Partial to cherries, loved a cherry did Hecate...(...to be continued)

...funny old thing."

"Well it can't be her anyway, she can't have come all this way," said Boo.

"Maybe she missed all of you?" said Withers who was up and had caught the conversation about the owl.

"It's possible, but the Molefield is such a long way away," said Arthur.

"What are we doing today then Ginny?" asked Barnaby.

"Nothing...absolutely nothing," said Boo, "that's what Ginny told me, a day of rest."

"Or a normal day for you Barnaby..." said Arthur.

"Whooopee... errr oi!" said Barnaby looking slightly miffed.

Ginny said, "anyway let's enjoy the day..."(...to be continued)

RIP Richard Briars, narrator of one of my top ten finest programmes ever on telly: Roobarb. Did he do Clangers as well? That's also one of my top ten finest

He was alright in the Good life too and Monarch of the Glen.

Hello Will and Layleesmum. I'm not going to be around much for the next four weeks. I'll be pooping in and out. I meant to say pooping.

I hope Googly starts gurgling again soon. I haven't seen her on here for a while.

Love to mommy fluffy bunny. xxx

Yes sad news, RIP Richard Briers seemed like a lovely man, a big part of my childhood, loved the Good Life I could recite lines from the script.

I was a big fan, just a funny man, great comic timing.

Hopefully you will poop in as much as you can Ana Banana.

Roobarb...aaaaaaaaah, yes, no he didn't narrate the Clangers, that was narrated by the magnificent Oliver Postgate who also created the wonderful Bagpuss, and Ivor the Engine, and Noggin the Nog.

Another who is no longer with us.

"Just a funny man".............. no higher praise possible

My brother and myself still often chuckle about how he developed a lisp when he got false teeth. I dont know why we found it so hilarious, but it seemed to make him even more endearing

I was looking at old episodes of the Good Life on Youtube, he makes me laugh so much, his little whistley tune "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" - he happily thweeps as he goes along his way...

The episode I was trying to see was The Thing in the Cellar where he builds a generator, I always found it funny when he shouted up "who that up der shouting who's that down der?" to Jerry shouting down to him...

Sadly BBC only have part 1 of episode 1:5 on Youtube, parts 2 and 3 aren't on.

No BBC tribute on yet, and BBC journos on strike so I have only just seen Penelope Keith saying he really was a kind man.

It should really be an evening of his programmes on BBC2 over a weekend, he was such a legend and so well loved.

Again a bit like my golden rule for favourite books, I've read lots of PG Wodehouse, tomes of his work I just don't have the appetite for another TV adaption when others have failed to translate his writing so miserably.

I try to make excuses for Arsene Wenger because I like him and he's a footy legend, but the vultures are circling and he cuts a lonely figure and often doesn't shake the other manager's hand or does so only grudgingly when he loses - humility in defeat Arsene.

His record speaks for itself however and Arsenal should be vewy, vewy careful what they wish for if they get rid of him, it would be very foolish in my opinion, he has worked miracles on a shoestring budget.

"Did you want me Ginny?" asked Zany.

"Oh yes, walk this way," and she strode off towards the Palace.

"If I could walk that way I'd be a giraffe," he shook his head at the others lolling about by the old apple tree in the cool morning sunshine.

"Vy doan zhu cam eer vur a sweem, za vasser eez luvvaly," smiled Hermione, her big eyes glinting above the water line.

"I'm staying put, I see they have left the food from last night I am going to get..."

"A pear by any chance?" said Boo.

"How did you know?" he said puzzled.

"A wild guess," said Boo, "I'm going in the lake for a dip."

"Look at Oink!" said Arthur.

"What about him?" said Bodoing.

"Well he's lying down, not moving, most unusual...(...to be continued)
