Oh that's ok then, I thought DS had one of those "recent post" things on the front page.

Hahaha I do that too. It sort of jumps out these days.

'Cinnamon Toast and the End of the World' by Janet E. Cameron.

Its about a lad in the '80's who realises that he's in love with his best friend. They live in rural Nova Scotia, so being gay is virtually unheard of.
Sounds nice and fluffy but its got quite a dark side.

Oh yeah, I meant the forums page, not, like, the homepage homepage Sorry for giving you a heart attack

I can be skim-reading something, and if it has the word gay in it, I'll spot it I don't know why, but I'll always find a gay story somewhere

I've never actually read a gay book, or seen a gay film (like, a real gay film (I think I've said this before)). Maybe I should, there's enough out there. Gay-specific media's kind of passed me by.

If you're looking for gay-specific media, I can wholeheartedly recommend prayers for Bobby, although it's a tearjerker.

Well I've only just started to try and read 'gay lit'. First time I've ever read something with actual-for-real gay main character. The last one (The Art of Fielding) had a gay romance, but it was secondary (and a tad icky), and prior to that it was a halfhearted attempt in a Star Trek book.

Although Cinnamon isn't a conventional love story it was nice to read a 'boy meets boy' angle on things.

We have a review section?
Well we have a books subforum and you can review books in there if you like.

I've heard of it, not sure I could watch it, sounds an emotional watch.

I've seen a few others though: 'Milk', 'Latter Days' (that scene in the motel.. oooft!)and my personal favorite 'In & Out'.

I've heard of that, the film with Sigourney Weaver, that is. I didn't know there was a book. Having read about it, I don't know. On the one hand it's great that his mother developed, and changed her opinions to gay people, even becoming a gay rights advocate, but it just makes me think it's even sadder she only changed after his death, which I suppose was partly her fault it seems. It's like 'Be so hateful towards your own son as to push him to suicide, then use his suicide as grounds for change.' I suppose if I read the book my opinion wouldn't be quite so simplistic as that, though.

Yeah the film was based on the book.

It is so sad, but it's a story you used to hear quite frequently.

I'm reading the Kid, which is a sequel to a book called Push. (People might know Push as the movie adaptation is Precious)

I thought about reading the original book but apparently the book doesn't have as happy an ending as the movie did.

I'm not sure how I feel about it. The main character is Precious' son, but he's just not likeable at all like his mum was. Yet I can't stop reading it.

^I had the same issue with 'Cinnamon', the main character was a total d*ck a couple of times but somehow I managed to keep reading it! lol

Funny that, I guess when its well written it will keep your interest, even when a character shifts in a direction you don't like.

I'm rubbish at reading books as I never finish them however I have read two books recently which is pretty impressive have another one to read

Read
- Eat that frog (become more productive basically. Easy and nice read)
- Information is beautiful (stunning book, showing facts and figures in stunning pictures and info-graphics, recommend it)

- who moved my cheese (how to deal with change in your work and life) - not read yet but will
