Sort of, she does all the studio and producing side.

I start at 7, so won't be on after this til after work.

I'm 20, my girlfriend is 18.

We've been together almost 9 months.

In that time, we lost her mother to cancer (On Chrismas day just gone)

Her maternal grandfather also died of cancer, and her paternal grandfather is nearing the end of his battle with cancer So it's really tough on her But also tough on me, as it's dawning on me that she's most likely going to get it at some point during her lifetime - I love her so much, and I have no intention of leaving her, but if we stay together, it's almost guaranteed that I'm going to lose her to cancer How do I cope with that? Obviously it's not something that right now I can discuss with her?

Gosh Beth that's pretty rough. I've never really been in that position before. What type of cancer is it she lost her mum and gran to? If it's something curable or removable, if she gets herself checked out as regularly as possible that could help.

It's a tough one. I can't exactly tell you what the right thing to do is because as I say I've never been in that position, but if I loved someone like you say you love her, I think I'd face it with her. I wish I could help you more

She didnt tell me much about her maternal grandfather, I know about it from her maternal grandmother, who was saying she'd lost her husband and her daughter to it.

I know her paternal grandfather, it's lung cancer.

Her mum, I think it started as breast cancer years ago, then she got the all clear, and then it came back, but it had taken over by September when we first met. It was sudden though, her mum was booked in for a false hip in January, I went to meet her family the week before Christmas, I left on the 20th and her mum died 4 days later. She was taken off some steriods on the sunday, and died wednesday night - so whilst it was expected, it wasn't expected in such a short timeframe.

I intent to face it with her, I have no idea how to cope with it as and when though, and obviously I'm not going to vocalise this to her.

This may sound stupid but try not to worry about it just yet Beth, just take each day as it comes and make the most of them.

It's hard when cancer runs in families I know.

It doesn't sound stupid - yeah, I'm trying not to focus on it too much!

Strangely enough Beth I am, I thought I'd be upset, angry or whatever but I just feel calm. I have posted it elsewhere though just so I don't internalise it unintentionally.

Cancer doesn't have to be a death sentence if they catch it early enough. My best friend is in remission from lung cancer atm. Probably helps that he's an neuro-consult but still..
