Finding it hard to learn Spanish though, which is weird, but I suppose I'm not motivated enough. Weirdly, I understand a fair bit when people talk to me, but I don't know how to respond, I think it's because people assume I speak Spanish, so I'm starting to pick up on words.
I managed to place my order for a cup of tea in Spanish though, with the waitress chuckling at my pronunciation. I struggle with pronunciation in English, let alone another language!
All the tenses confuse me too.
Unfortunately, it seems I'm turning into one of those much maligned ex-patriots... In the village I live in, there's an awful lot of British people, in fact, in my apartment block there's only like 3 Spanish families!”
At least you spoke some of the language which is a start. I used to write in Spanish which helped a lot, but that was years ago, and have forgotten, but couple of years ago, I met a Spanish lady who couldn't speak English, and it was a one-sided convo she was having with me. When she asked me a question I nodded, and think I gave her the wrong impression that I had a son, as I managed to work out a part of her convo. Was very embarrassing not knowing.

She was very nice though and shared her food with us.

Next time will bring a Spanish dictionary with me. My niece was there too and knows 4 languages, so helped me out a bit

One way of learning a language is to think in it.
