But I don't want that to happen

Hey all, just chillin' in a little cafe atm, after spending a day at the beach. Think I might have to find work soon, as I'm getting a little bored, there's only so many books to read and podcasts to listen to after all!

Finding it hard to learn Spanish though, which is weird, but I suppose I'm not motivated enough. Weirdly, I understand a fair bit when people talk to me, but I don't know how to respond, I think it's because people assume I speak Spanish, so I'm starting to pick up on words.

I managed to place my order for a cup of tea in Spanish though, with the waitress chuckling at my pronunciation. I struggle with pronunciation in English, let alone another language!

All the tenses confuse me too.
Unfortunately, it seems I'm turning into one of those much maligned ex-patriots... In the village I live in, there's an awful lot of British people, in fact, in my apartment block there's only like 3 Spanish families!

I have the same feelings as you about not working. Obviously with jumping before I was pushed last week I've been sat on my butt for the most part aside from nights out. Time goes by so much slower, I already feel like I've been MIA for months, I'm ready to go back to work right now.

That sounds about right, you have plans of getting to know all the wonderful Spanish locals but before you know it you're sticking with the home guard

Is it because your dark that the automatic assumption is you must know another language or be Spanish yourself? Silly isn't it?

You know I've heard there are more suicides on Valnetines than any other day of the year?”

They don't flaunt around here, that's for sure, and have never seen that happen in all my years. Maybe reason why suicides is that few can't get the card they want for their beloved. Mind you I have seen blokes with flowers and choccies which is a must have. I'm lucky if I get a card for my b/day, so don't hold much hope for one on Valentine's day. lol

At least you spoke some of the language which is a start. I used to write in Spanish which helped a lot, but that was years ago, and have forgotten, but couple of years ago, I met a Spanish lady who couldn't speak English, and it was a one-sided convo she was having with me. When she asked me a question I nodded, and think I gave her the wrong impression that I had a son, as I managed to work out a part of her convo. Was very embarrassing not knowing. She was very nice though and shared her food with us. Next time will bring a Spanish dictionary with me. My niece was there too and knows 4 languages, so helped me out a bit One way of learning a language is to think in it.

You're 13 years old in DS years, that's so cool, you're like a centenarian

Nice to meet you Dix, and with a name like that are you sure you're unaware of what LGBT stands for?

I never got any cards either, doesn't matter. I've only actually been in a relationship for 3 valentines days throughout my life. Although one of them was when I was 6 and my gf at the time kicked me and took the haribo ring I gave to her, I was asking her to taketh me as her husband.

Never quite moved on from that.

It's weird because when I'm working all I do is complain about working!

There isn't much of a scene in the south of the island unfortunately, the one gay club shut down, so I just go to Tramps, which is very straight. I don't care though, I just wanna dance!

If it helps, I've not had a sober valentines day since I was 13..

I found it all a lot easier when I was younger. I used to go out to mainland Spain quite a bit, so I picked up bits at the time, I was certainly more able to hold a conversation back then!

One thing I've noticed is people are very direct here.

I tend to say things like, "I would like..." or "can I have?" The locals are just like one coffee please.

Oh sorry I meant flat.

And its all good, I expected it a long time ago tbh. These things happen. I'm just staying focused on myself tbh, I find their moaning about each other yo me very tiresome.

I saw in another thread you'd moved to Tenerife (I hadn't noticed your location on the left ). Have you moved there permanently? Was the UK that bad?
