Must be very frustrating for any athlete.”

It would be nice if they placed, at least. Britain loves it sport, maybe more then they dislike transpeople. A win is a win.

I'd like to think most British people would overcome there predjuice for Olympic success...

Most people would, but I expect the usual suspect papers will have something to say.

I'd like to think language has modified. I have bought the sun in years. But surely, they arent running trans hit pieces are they?

Surely not in this day and age.

That's all I ever saw going up. The sun reporting on someone having a 'sex swap op

Usually accompanied with a 'before' picture that's most 'mainly' avalibale. Usually dressed as policeman or a solider. Ideally, that one photo of you wearing a beard.

Surely the tabloids love of British sporting success, would trump this kind of gutter press.

I'm not saying the tabloids won't be conflicted. But to do down an oylimpic hero. They wouldn't be that stupid....

Since the GRA they have - thankfully - become more moderated. So it is certainly not as awful as it was in the 80s and 90s when two separate tabloids outed me behind my back with photos I have no idea how they sourced.

Being a little in the public eye those stories were inevitable and I had expected them earlier to be honest. But they still declined my suggestion that if they waited I would give them a proper interview. They chose to go with what they had (second hand tittle tattle from 'sources' who were never revealed). I only wanted them to wait to give me time to tell my brothers kids who were at school that the person they had only ever known as their aunty - as I transitioned years before they were born - was getting outed and their school friends might comment. We were planning to tell them but not whilst they were at primary school in days when there was not the broader understanding that there is today.

Stories of this kind do still appear but I think now that they are more common and have lost the shock value they are not given headlines that, in my case, were simply lies. Speaking that I had deliberately fooled people for years by not being 'open' when in reality everyone I worked with in any significant way were told up front because I knew this could happen and did not want them to be unprepared. Another inspired claims that I had fiddled my tax in some way by having two identities. Yet, in reality, I transitioned very young for the 1970s and my tax records were all in my name and had been from the very start.

So whilst this sort of thing is definitely less likely these days I have less faith that there will not be accusations of trans athletes putting our reputation on the line over claims they are cheating their way to success. Complete nonsense, of course, but nonsense often masquerades as a good story when it comes to such matters.

It may have been around for 17 years now, but I've finally got around to seeing 'Mamma Mia!' on stage.

Was that the most recent one, I was watching it earlier funnily enough but turned off as I was bored.

He's edible

^Yes that's the one.

I feel sorry for the 'non-celeb' chap. It appeared that they edited around some of his comments. And I hear that he's had some flak on Twitter for it - which is ridiculous.

Could you extrapolate? what was he apparently doing?

I remember they did something similar to a model who came across quite miserable on his date with a girl who seemed much too good for him. But long story short he explained that the date was portrayed as him putting in very little effort and he said they talked for a good three hours and enjoyed the company, just not romantically.

Also a bunch of morons sent him death threats for asking to split the bill, the £350 bill. That's equality after all.

Is it wrong of me to think splitting the bill is a sign of friend zoning?

Well he was flirting, no doubt about that. It's just they seemed to emphasise his more 'humourous lines'.
"Do you have any (nationality) in you?
[reply; no]
Do you want some?
"

Certainly cringey (by his own admission)- but you don't know what was said before that.

How do you mean? As in implying the date is going nowhere?

Kind of yeah, just for example, if I were going on a date with some hotoshot business type, he would want to give it the big bollocks and pay, but if I wasn't feeling it I'd offer to split, a clear yet subtle hint that interested I am not

The alternative though is to let him pay but then say "I'll get the next one" - that is, of course if you want a second date.

I'm on board with that fairy

All these Olympians to me just look like little boys with six packs. I'd prefer to feast my eyes on a hairy, slightly overweight Israeli hunk.

One is nice to look at, the other is more practical.

I agree with you both there.

Although to be fair to the swimmers, they have to do it through nescessity.

Looks like the t'interwebs has a new favourite from Rio. PRCs Ning Zetao. Can't say I blame 'em.

And congrats to Tom Daley and Dan Goodfellow on getting a bronze medal.

Nice Random Fact (RF) of the day. Team Great Britian has the highest number of out LGBT athletes in Rio with 8.

Edit: Not only that, we have the first out couple competing at the Games with Helen and Kate Richardson-Walsh

You've forgotten about the Canadian player in their women's 7's rugby team. After Canada beat GB for the bronze medal, her girlfriend ran on the pitch and proposed to her.
Of course she said yes.

Not a bad twenty minutes work, winning a bronze medal and a wife..!!

^n'awww that's nice.
