Caught Slammiversary over the weekend. It was the best TNA PPV since Destination X 2012. There wasn't a bad match in there. I'd been dreading Sting (weaker, no cardio fitness) vs. Bully Ray but the guys worked out enough story business to pull it off. Prior to that had been some excellent matches: X Division, 8 4-team Tag and, yes, the best female match I have seen in years. If Kim had bladed herself after spearing the chair, the crowd would have gone even more crazy. The girls must have loved their two "Holy S**ts" and their "This is awesome" because Knockouts usually come on to wolf whistles and then mostly silence. I said before that I think Taryn might be shaking things up and this match was the proof. She and Kim have raised the bar for all the others. A classic match regardless of gender. The message is simple: if you don't have the physical strength concentrate on speed, performance and kinetics.
I also liked the fine detail in the writing; e.g. the company clearly values Suicide because they added the special plot point of the threat of having his mask removed, to enable Sabin to win without harming Suicide's character. The new guy playing Suicide is awesome. I can't believe how much energy he has, how much he uses almost mime to show his character. I also don't see how he can maintain his current level of inventiveness. It's been an awesome "return".
Not sad to see Todd go. I never quite understood why he was there. His comments and vocal range are similar to Mike's who, to me, is the voice of TNA. I do occasionally pine for the contrast of Don "Are You Kidding Me!?" West.
