Has the freak (RobbieT) actually wrestled yet?

The UFC on Fox events vary but they usually average out at less than the average edition of Raw on USA from what I remember. But the UFC events air on Saturday so its difficult to get like-for-like comparisons there. Of course as big as UFC undoubtedly is when it comes to Pay-Per-View (although they've had some recent stumbles there as well I think) they're television ratings have never exactly been blockbuster. Its still a niche thing its just a niche thing that more people are aware of now.

I'm not sure.

The UK tours sell out because UK fans seem to have more money than sense. The same is true of WWE tours. Name value sells tickets here. Plus they're relatively infrequent. Weekly shows every week would be a struggle I imagine.

I hope they do hit the reboot button and am glad the deal includes more TV than just Impact and hopefully they will get behind TNA and promote TNA, something Spike rarely did. I'm sure TNA asked what the ad revenue was for the other shows on the network and what their current top shows were making from advertising. I don't think they would go into losing money. I think if they are smart they will get someone completely new to do the booking and writing of the TV shows. This relying on old times from the wrestling business doesn't work and let me tell you this, the demographic for this channel might not be the same as the other major cable channels out there but it's still an audience. It's still people that want to sit and watch TV and enjoy the shows they are watching. They are not wrestling fans. All the wrestling fans in the USA already watch Raw on Monday and a small amount of them watch TNA or DVR TNA and watch it later. I know it's a wrestling show but that shouldn't be the focus of the show. They need fresh writers, fresh characters, the kind of show that people all ages will watch. The people that already watch this Discovery Channel are going to discover TNA probably for the first time, they need to put out a product that will make people stay on the channel and keep watching and likewise with Discovery they should be working with TNA to get the most eyeballs on their channel. The wrestling business is dead in the water. 10 minute fake fights isn't gonna do it. It's gonna take some hard work and effort to get this thing right.

Look what Lucha Underground is doing now, something different, uniqe, it's exciting and engaging. The time flies by. It's filmed like a movie, it takes itself seriously and plays seriously. It never feels cheesy or corny. TNA should follow suit and present their wrestling product in a completely different way, nothing at all like the competition and stick to it. Get an identity and tell people who they are and what they are and stick to it. I would even go as far as reformatting the shows. I wouldn't even have a Dixie Carter or GM. I'd tell people right off the bat what the matches are that night. Maybe have fan involvement for stipulations, even something like the Nitro girls but have them out there with bikinis on and getting the crowd going and doing something with the main event or gimmick matches. Maybe having a leaderboard for the championship contenders or even better why not split the show into 2 one hour slots? Why not have 1 hour on Tuesday night and one hour on Thursday night? Or Wednesday and Thursday? Not only can you hype a main even for the second hour that week but you're still getting your 2 hours of TV and all the talent get TV time. It will fly by. It could be like any sport/tv show. You can get one good hour of TV and then you get a little something else to look forward to the next night or two nights later. You have maybe 3 good matches on the show, a few promos to sell THOSE matches, maybe some character vignettes and that's it. You still have your wrestlers interacting and storylines but it's done in a way that IF it were real.....that's how it would be. And splitting the show up over a few nights and just calling them Impact is again.......something that's never been done by any wrestling company. That idea alone is a new way of presenting professional wrestling on TV. 42 minutes minus commercials over the course of a few days. It's no different than watching a few football matches or a few days of golf or Eastenders.”

Some very good points there. I think the big problem is TNA has always tried to be exactly like WWE and really they should present themselves as an alternative. Hopefully they will start pushing newer talent and maybe even sign talent trading agreements with other companies to make themselves more interesting for markets that don't get TNA that perhaps could get them on board.

It's not the first time they've tried changine the format, or rebranding either.

UFC of course benefits from the belief people will watch live sport live (wherein the audience can't fast forward the ads).

Most UFC's are on at 10pm-1am east coast time, unlikely they could do Raw type numbers in that slot, it's presumably more about the number of young men watching than the overall rating.

Well UFC is real for starters so you do need to class it as a sport. I think the biggest difference between the companies and industries is that with wrestling, people are happy to watch it on TV every week or DVR it and catch up but they're not willing to pay any extra money for it to see any outcomes because the next night on TV whether it's Monday or Thursday, they can find out the results for free and carry on with the story. I think with UFC their audience will be clued in to every PPV and they know it could affect their careers and the results really will change what happens going forward whereas with wrestling, people know that nothing is really gonna change, they know even if someone gets injured there's a 99% chance they will pop up on TV the next night and keep moving forward. You kind of know nothing bad will happen to anyone, it's not like a grudge match where someone's career really is on the line and they've trained heavily for weeks/months for the fight.

Perhaps a shot at Mr Jarrett?

After being denied entrance to the TNA Wrestling office Rockstar Spud does the one thing a person does when they don’t get their way…

Starts his own wrestling promotion

Haha nice work Spud, although crazy Steve steals the show

If you haven't seen it already it's worth checking out Spud's match with Mr Anderson onxplosion recently, when Spud accidentally hits Earl Hebner, Hebner gets his revenge by body slamming Spud and going for the cover while Mr Anderson counts! Very funny match, if you can find it online.

I thought it was pretty good, thought the hardcore match was going to be crap (Dreamer v Bram), and mostly it was but the ending was pretty sick. And a good Knockouts title match and an ok X Division title 4 way.

Latest from Wrestling Observer
Quote:
“The plan is for a reboot of sorts for the debut show, with new graphics and a new look. Josh Matthews will be replacing Mike Tenay as the lead announcer, working with Taz. The expectation is that Tenay will remain with the company in an on-air role. That change probably would have happened anyway, even if they weren’t looking for a new look and changes on a new station. Part of the deal may be because they consider Jeff Jarrett Public Enemy No. 1 (they even did a video piece designed to mock Jarrett doing a Billionaire Ted-like skit on him) and signing Tenay would keep him from Jarrett, who wanted Tenay to be his lead announcer if he got TV. I had pretty much figured from the day Matthews was let go by WWE that TNA would bring him in because of the John Gaburick connection, and he was at a TNA show in New York immediately after being let go. He was signed right after his non-compete ended, and moved to Nashville some time ago. He was signed at the time to be an announcer, a job he hasn’t started at yet. He’s been working on the web site and other work for months. The only thing that may have changed the plans was Tenay’s performance at Bound for Glory which some figured may have swayed the decision, similar to the fan reaction to Jim Ross in Chicago on the Hall of Fame induction swaying Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunn to cancel the plans of replacing him after the 2007 WrestleMania, which had been the plan. It probably would have only delayed the inevitable, because once the thought is in people’s heads about age, it’s just a matter of time before the decision is going to be made. With the doctrine of a complete new look for the product, changing the announcers in an easy cosmetic change.”

Has anyone been watching bootcamp? Pretty good show, my favourite finalists are Mark Andrews, Noam Darr and Kay Lee Ray.
Grado is pretty funny ha, Dave Mastiff could be a good monster heel. Not really digging Rampage Brown though.

Big news for TNA - Angle has apparently told Vince Russo he's definitely re-signing with the company.

That'll be a big plus for them on the new network. He did also say in the podcast with Russo though that he thinks he's only got one or two years left before he retires.

I'd rather KA have a wwe return aswell (possibly on a pay per appearance deal) ... If he's staying with tna its not cause he wants to its cause wwe ain't offered him owt imo!

To be fair, I think you could argue he's more closely associated with TNA now than he is with the WWE. He had a good run in the WWE for sure, but he's been gone so long now that I doubt many fans would really be that bothered.

if tna have any sense at all they'll steer well, well clear of russo.
