Hello, just popping in again. Not doing very well with keeping up with this thread.
Welcome newbies ![]() Just wanted to add my comments re Christmas. I agree it was bad writing for all the reasons everyone has already given. And it was so inconsistent I think you could argue it either way with Peter's preference for Carla vs Leanne. I do think on balance there is more to support him wanting Carla over Leanne, like the fact that since then they've seemed loved up and no suggestion Peter doesn't want to be with Carla or that he does want to be with Leanne. Though I think he is still a bit arrogant/ selfish in that he prob wants Leanne to still want him even though he doesn't want her. Which actually goes against h loving her because it's too selfish. If he had chosen Carla for some other reason but loved Leanne in a non selfish way he would want her to be happy, not want her to pine for him. Though I know love/ people in love can be pretty selfish. I disagree that Carla being loved up I'd out of character. Yes she has that sarcastic/ bitchy side but I also think the ability to be loved up I'd part of her when she's in a good enough place with the right man. What about all that (can't remember exact words) about wanting to live to be 100 and wanting to help old ladies across the road when she was with Liam? |

Totally agree with you about Simon and Carla! I know in Simon's eyes she's the one responsible for the breakup of Peter and Leanne, but it annoyed me a little how he was so resentful against Carla and still wanted Peter and Leanne back together, yet as soon as Nick came into the picture he was this amazing person who he was happy to live with and see as a second dad! I loved the little scene when Carla and Peter came back and Simon said if they stayed, he'd be really nice to Carla. It showed that he was aware of what he was doing, but then that went down the drain when she came back the 2nd time and he was all "What's she doing here?!"
I'm quite clueless as to what the big summer storyline for Carla and Peter could be. Part of me thinks it could involve Leanne if she finds out about Nick and Kylie, but then if Leanne gets involved I think I'd worry a little. Everyone keeps saying Leanne and Peter couldn't get back together after what's happened....I'm sorry but were people watching the Christmas episodes?! He so clearly wanted Leanne over Carla which still kills me now, I still feel he settled for Carla as 2nd best, that look he gave her and then when he still chased Leanne into the street and was all "What could I do?!" it just...ugh! I love and still ship Carter but I will forever resent him for that ![]() Christmas, ugh, God knows what happened. I agree that Carla's quick departure and return was a bit confusing. It was a bit pointless in all honestly. I think the writers did it just to fit in an episode where Peter could make a move on Leanne. But personally, I believe it was very poorly done. If they REALLY wanted to include it so badly then surely there could have been a better way to do it? Not just be all "Oh we'll cart Carla off for a few days, because she's having a breakdown. But she can come back shortly after and be fine to deal with everything." It doesn't really add up. But oh well! At least she DID come back. Corrie wouldn't be the same without her. Whether Peter wants Leanne or Carla I am unsure about. I really hope it's Carla he wants. Because honestly, I want them to stop breaking her heart! Poor Carla has had her heart broken so many times, and she's fallen hard for Peter. I don't think she'd cope very well without him. Lets just hope Corrie call it a day for Peter and Leanne. |

She's been in the "selfish home wrecker" shadow for too long now. And we all know she's not selfish really! She's always been kind towards people who deserve it. :P
Totally agree with this. Yes she can be 'selfish' (although that's just a stupid word really, and a massive generalisation but yeah) at times, in that she's driven to succeed in whatever goal she sets herself, but that by no means makes her a selfish person. She clearly has a kind heart and can, and has been, really supportive and caring of people who've needed it in the past: Peter, Maria, Fiz, Michelle, Ryan, Liam... the whole street after the tram crash when she bought everyone food. She gives as good as she gets, really. Quote:
Just popped in to say hello to everyone. I've been on holiday which has been very relaxing though have now gone and spoilt it by only getting about 4 hours sleep last night.
![]() Nice video Mad and great you got to meet Ali, Holz. Hope everyone is well. Will try and do a longer post at some point when I've caught up on things I need to do and on getting some sleep. Glad you a good holiday, but sucks about getting so little sleep. Quote:
This is what makes me think the storyline could be about the factory. Stuart Blackburn said Tracy will come back to the fore.
Quote:
I know he didn't give us much to go on but I personally don't think involving Carla and Peter in Leanne and Nick's dramas would be moving them on apace. So, for the moment, I'm going to assume the writers are taking them in a different direction.
This is what I'm thinking. The fact that he's gone to the effort of specifically saying he's moving them on to me suggests it's not another rehash of old storylines and love squares. It also perhaps suggests that if by some disaster they do split, Peter won't go back to Leanne, although maybe I'm being a bit optimistic here. I stand by thinking it's either a wedding/baby, or he's moving them on from the relationship and they're going their separate ways. Praying it's the first. Quote:
I completely agree that they could be focusing more on Carla and Simon though. I would like to think that, in time, Simon will accept Carla but so much needs to happen before there's even a hint of that happening. There is long journey ahead, as there would be in the real world because Simon isn't suddenly going to change his mind about Carla. If Carla and Peter are going to have a future then let's face it, at some point they're going to have to address her relationship with Simon in some way or other. They can't just never be in a scene together ever again, surely. And especially if it is good news re moving them on, then that's gonna have to involve some Carla/Simon interaction. But at least the writers have something to work on. Quote:

I get that Simon is only 9, but seriously, his logic is ridiculous. Even if we accept that, to him, it's all Carla's fault his mum and dad split up, then surely he'd dislike Nick more for preventing them getting back together? And then there's his whole reaction to Leanne and Nick's non-wedding. Gutted that the wedding didn't happen, whilst simultaneously hating Carla for coming back and (I guess) keeping his mum and dad from getting back together. It just makes no sense. Quote:
And then Carla being near suicidal about living in Weatherfield, a week later all her woes are gone and she's fine.
![]() Quote:
[and that wasn't just because me and Holz had met Ali that day
] As it was I was on too much of an Ali high to fully enjoy the scene, anyway. But yeah, I did love that scene. Carla's feisty side is slowly but surely returning and I love that. Quote:
But no, really, I'm happy for them to take the backseat because like somebody said we can't expect constant drama and it's nice to see them happy, but I'd like to SEE them happy and not just assume Exactly!
Quote:
I too thought Peter's change in attitude was more to do with the fact he had thought he'd lost Carla for good. I never thought his talk with Leanne was based on his feelings for her but rather that he would have quite liked that little family unit back, have his son in his life permenantly, not to mention he'd delight in annoying Nick in any way possible. He had his chance if he truly wanted to be with Leanne that day, but he wasn't the one telling Nick that Leanne had come to his which surely he would have done had he really wanted Leanne back. I think his true motivation over Christmas was Simon, albeit done in the wrong way.

I think it was borderline offensive the way that was done, to be honest. Offensive to people who have been through what Carla has, who suffer from the PTSD/flashbacks that she does, for those feelings to be used as such a blatant and pathetic plot device, for her to come back a week later completely fine. Could they not have just said that Carla had set things up that she didn't want to leave, work wise, in LA or something, and have them decide to go their separate ways without all the rape memories, drinking etc? Granted there wouldn't have been the whole Leanne/Carla cat fight in the street but it would've made a whole lot more realistic and it would've flowed a whole lot better when she returned. Or even a few odd mentions of her continued anxiety at being back would've been something. Urgh. It was also offensive to the rape storyline itself as well, to be honest. All the amazing acting and writing that went into it, only for it be used as a cheap excuse to rid of Carla for a week a year later. It just kind of cheapens the whole portrayl of it back in 2011, for me. But meh, I guess I'm just over sensitive with things like this. Blame the degree/job
![]() The whole of Christmas was a plot-device just to create excitement an also be a catalyst for other storylines, ie. Kylie and Nick. If Brian Kirkwood has decided he wants Carla and Peter to stay together then I think it would be nice to have a scene between C&P discussing what happened at Christmas and Peter explaining his feelings, because at the moment there's always going to be that doubt in their relationship and if he wants to move them forward I think this needs addressing. |

Hi people and welcome newbies!
![]() Just a very fleeting visit. My, haven't we been busy in here?!! Just as well I popped in to see what I was missing and a quick catch up.Looks like we are all desperate for a decent sl for Carter. Well, I'm with you all there. However, I'm quite happy to see little glimpses of them in the background, apparently being happy together. If it means that Ali and Chris re-charging the batteries before the onset of a biggie sl in the summer,..well, so much the better. Can't wait though !I've decided to put last X'mas's sl behind me. I had many misgivings about how it all played out. Particularly Peter's behaviour once Carla had left for LA. I wasn't impressed as you will all have noted, if you go back many pages on the previous thread. I, too believe it was purely a plot-device to work in the Nick/Leanne wedding disaster, that was. Ultimately, despite the miixed signals from Peter, as I've mentioned many times,...I'm pretty convinced that it is Carla that Peter loves. I do believe it was just Peter's arrogance and selfishness that made him behave the way he did over X'mas, where Leanne was concerned. And,...I know most people read into Peter's reaction when Carla returned on X'mas Eve and knocked on Peter's door,...as a look of disappointment, as he was expecting it to be Leanne. Well,...I never did read that from Peter's expression. Shock definitely! And, more than a little bit of,..."Oh shit!" But, never, never disappointment at seeing Carla,...well,..imo anyway. ![]() Anyway, just wanted to say a quick hi. I'm still floating about, but still a bit distracted with other matters in the real world. Hope to pop in again later in the week.*Ocean - hope you had a lovely holiday. ![]() *Holz - keeping my fingers crossed that we get some really moving scenes with Hayles and Carla, later this year. Bye for now people. xx |

I think I have a theory! The full monty is the night of the rovers fire, with everyone in the bistro which explains:
1. Why Alison, Kym and Shobna (amongst others) were all filming in the bistro together and why there were lots of group photos of seemingly random groups 2. Why Carla, Michelle etc were all dressed up in killer heels and dresses 3. Perhaps Carla and peter's involvement in the fire if someone alerts them they all come out, Peter sees the proximity of the fire to no1, plays the hero and leaves area v worried and glad backing the tram crash or losing loved ones in general! Yay? Nay? |

Last night I had a dream that Carla and Peter split up for good. Can't remember the exact reason but it involved a lot of Carla leaving and coming back again a lot in an inconsistent way, like the pre-Christmas stuff. It also involved Simon deliberately meddling to split them up. How sad am I to have Corrie dreams?! Also a bit belated, but.. I don't normally watch Dancing on Ice but as I was watching more tv when on holiday watched the one when Samia went out and was chuffed to see Ali on it. Though maybe she was on it other weeks as well and I've missed out. Quote:

I have had a few Corrie/Carter dreams quite recently too In one dream, Carla and Peter were inside the Platt's house and they were sitting around a table with Stella, Gail, Leanne and Gloria - it was as if Stella thought she owed Carla. In that dream, Peter and Carla were whispering and it was like they were plotting something or hiding something. Yes Ocean, follow more people (ie us lot

Does anybody else think Ali looks thinner lately? I noticed it first in this picture http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/...43_634x876.jpg on her legs, and in the latest one on Twitter (which Leah has just posted) she looks it around her face!
Not as in an OH MY GOD SHE'S UNHEALTHY way, but I definitely think she looks thinner! |

Peter Barlow is so confusing. Why doesn't he understand why Leanne is off with him, he must realise what he did over Christmas. Ugh, it does my head in.
