But one has to ask why Cook thought this divine intervention from the Apple tree was needed at all. My guess is he was asked why Apple does not use them when they seem to be prefered by other manufacturers and users.

I'm sure you wouldn't in fact I suspect you think he's spot on as usual.

oled rubbish, big screens rubbish, small tablets rubbish until Apple have them.

Look screen colour saturation is a personal preference. Stiggles likes the vivid colours, Anika likes the more natural choice.

It makes sense to me that you should be able to adjust colour saturation, but it's not actually an issue for me currently as both my iPhone 5 and Nexus 4 are similar in terms of saturation, and neither device has a saturation setting, they both just have Brightness adjustment.

Well, OLED not so good on colour saturation.

Big phone screens not so good for single handed use.

Small tablets - so Jobs didn't rate them. So what? What's so special about Apple that they can't ever change plans over time, depending on circumstance. And for what its worth, the iPad mini is a significantly bigger screen than most 7" tablets anyway.

I don't know why you feel the need to constantly latch on to the smallest thing about Apple, and exaggerate it to some dumb extreme in an attempt to make some point or other.

Constantly latch on to Everything? As in what exactly idiotic statements from Apple? ... However I thought that was your job to defend to the hilt every single aspect of Apple philosophy, you must monitor these forums constantly to find blasphemous statements against Apple

Hi there,

I've just checked and it's in SETTINGS - DISPLAY - SCREEN MODE (there are 4 settings).

I've checked and mine and it's set to standard.

I don't think noticing the difference between, for example, "everything is rubbish" and "colour saturation on OLED screens isn't the best" quite counts as defending anything to the hilt.

So you post all that you do, which is fine, but any replies from me involve monitoring these forums constantly?

You're hilarious!

And you never really say anything constructive in reply - you just start waffling on about people defending everything to do with Apple. I'm certainly not defending everything to do with Apple, I'm disagreeing with some very specific things that get said about Apple, which are clearly and demonstrably exaggerated nonsense.

From the person who claimed in another thread that it is sad for people to take things literally on her

You feel free to monitor away and defend every aspect of a company right or wrong if it makes you happy Im surprised the call hasn't gone out to the other usual suspects yet.

However the fact Mr cook felt the need to make such comments does smack of deputation ... Only need to defend your choices if you feel you should which he clearly does.

That is some quite spectacular twisting of logic right there. You take a perfectly reasonable comment about taking things too literally, as a cue to take something Cook said and exaggerate it into something he didn't say at all? I almost don't know what to say.

And this stuff about monitoring forums really is funny - why are you posting on internet forums, if you're just going to accuse people who reply to you of nonsense like that?

You seem to have trouble replying to what people say, without making it about the people replying to you, and trotting out all this guff about defending Apple.

But to be clear, this isn't about defending Apple, its about pointing out that you are totally misrepresenting things that are said, and exaggerating them.

As for Cook feeling the need to make such comments, you do realise he was asked about stuff in a Q&A? I suppose he could have just said "no comment".

In a way it is comforting to hear this from cook. it is what apple users have been saying for years.

but why did he say it. to me it seems like don't worry about all this stuff that other phones, tablets etc can do. you don't want it. like a reassurance to their customers that they shouldn't be worrying about any perceived weakness in iDevices.

i guess what might worry you as an apple fan would be that this seems to imply that you wont be getting them any time soon.

Still posting anti-Apple rubbish without any justification or reasonable argument? It's really getting boring now.

I think Tim Cook is having a difficult time trying to imitate Steve Job's good work. Unfortunately Tim is more a logistics man and has only come by the CEO job by being an extremely trusted person in Steve's world when he was alive. Personally, Jonny Ive's should be at the helm calling the shots. Or at least someone who has a care to detail. This is where the iPhone 4S/5 have lost their edge. Unfinished applications, buggy software and little development in key UI areas are leaving them slowly back-tracking. I personally think Google are doing the same. It's only Samsung that have made a real impact in pushing Android hard under their own brand. That's nothing to do with how cutting edge Android is. They just know how to sell it with their own theme on top of the underlying OS.

This is where Blackberry have timed their new OS release perfectly. There's still 6 months until the new iPhone/iOS release and if that comes in as a dead duck, anyone coming in with a new phone product/OS can take opportunity of users moving away from the iOS ecosystem.

You only feel the need to lash out like this when you feel threatened. Two options when your wounded crawl of and die or go on the offensive and lash out.

This statement seems to mean more of the same old to come for the faithful I think.

Perhaps they are putting a retina screen on the new iwatch

Why did he say what?

Why did he say "everything the iPhone hasn't got is rubbish"?

Short answer is he didn't say "everything the iPhone hasn't got is rubbish".

He said that he thought OLED screens tend to display over saturated colors.

Wozniack has some interesting comments about his old company

"Part of me wishes Apple had not been so, kind of, arrogant and feeling like 'we're the only one with the right clue.' I wish they had made wider versions -- a small and a large version of the iPhone".

http://news.cnet.com/8301-17852_3-57...-got-arrogant/

Bit in bold is very interesting and ties in with the direction this thread has gone.

You see in the world of business and commerce these things are said for a reason and are preplanned.

He's not posting on a forum and set out to deliberately say these things ... It then has to be wondered why.

Can they not find supplies of oled so rubbish them? Are they planning more ordinary tech in the near future so claim they don't wish to enter a spec war which obviously they would lose.

You have to try and look at the bigger picture and start thinking beyond what Apple tell you is right.

On iWatch 2.0, they will want you to buy it twice, at least.

Apple is very disturbing as a company. So instead of actually trying to innovate, their only solution to the fact that their products just aren't as good as others is to trash everything else by claiming that their own products are better...laughable. They are just damaging their own reputation. I think they've realised that like the PC wars they've lost the Smartphone wars to Google, they've realised they aren't in control of the market any more so are trying to go on the defensive, but it's not working.

Apple have form for this no matter what their most avid supporters say. Our way is the only way is a phrase which could have been written especially for Apple.

Ok, so they big their company up, they all do that, but it smacks of pure arrogance to suggest that other technology companies have got it so wrong.

The only disturbing thing here is that anyone would think that any of this is disturbing.

He was asked his opinion on something, and he said he thought OLED screens tend to be over saturated.

That people are describing this as lashing out and disturbing is really odd.

Cook also said their displays are the bestest and was looking for faults in those that competition used. You have to see the big picture.

I think the issue for Apple (and I am a big fan of Apple) is that the iPhone *was* pretty much the best smartphone out there for a good year or so. It really was excellent. Now though, it's a jolly good smartphone along with a range of other jolly good smartphones.

I think that Android has an advantage at the moment re. simplicity of a lot of the new look and feel; I am though really interested in what Apple do with iOS now that Mr Ive is in charge. To be honest that'll be what makes me stay or switch if I'm honest.

That's not what he said. He called them "awful" which is an extreme comment to make and obviously a shot at Samsung who pioneered OLED displays in use in quite a few smartphones today.

The Retina display will never be able to match the true blacks that an OLED can achieve so it was just a badly judged comment on his part.
