In answering that question he mentioned that he thought OLED displays were prone to over saturation.

I don't know why you need to exaggerate that into "Tim Cook says everything the iPhone hasn't got is rubbish".

And given that it was a part of perfectly reasonable response to a question on the subject, given quite calmly I'm sure, I don't know why you describe it as "lashing out".

Describing something as "awful" is hardly a constructive observation. And not only that, his comments are extremely misinformed. The Retina Display may be less prone to "over-saturation" but they are no match for the black colour reproduction on an OLED screen which is unrivalled, so his argument that the Retina Display provides a "superior experience" is more than questionable.

In fact this simple image more than proves that Tim Cook is doing nothing more than spouting hot air. The iPhone and LG devices are using IPS displays and they look washed out and are just no match for the Nokia E7 and Galaxy S using OLED displays.

He was asked about iPhone and larger screen sizes and chose as part of his response to rubbish oled which he was not asked about, of course he is free to do so if he wishes.

However seems an odd thing to do to defend your own choices by claiming everything else is rubbish/awful. For a CEO of a huge company to do this I believe is part of an agenda, that being don't expect modern up to date tech like amoled screens or fast cpus/spec and instead run with the tried and tested "use experience"

Well, yes - presumably because OLED is a current option for smart phone screens. So mentioning it seems entirely on topic.

Well that picture proves nothing. If my iPhone 5's screen looked that bad, I'd send it back. It doesn't though, it looks amazing. Colours, blacks, contrast, viewability in bright light.
Nothing like that picture at all.
I'm so glad Apple didn't go oled. I love the IPS display.

Some will love OLED, Some will love IPS.

Just seems a bit tacky to me for the boss of the worlds second largest company to try and 'big' his product up by 'rubbishing' others. Personally I'd like to see a product 'bigged up' because they think it deserves such praise rather than always having to compare (and that works for both sides).

It make's no sense as obviously future devices will have things they don't have now.

Hmmm on topic why and how? it's not the current option at all in fact used in very few phones but predominantly by Samsung their biggest rival strangely enough.

So as it is not widely used by any manufacturer it seems strange to come out and attack it unless you have an agenda, does it not? Especially when you are asked about screen size.

Fair enough for you. I have a Nexus 4 which has an IPS display also, and I enjoy it a lot, but having had OLED screens in the past, IPS just can't compete when rendering black colour.

Multi tasking is quite funny because support forums often suggest a clash with other applications when if fact IOS multi tasking functionality is already extremely limited.

You will only need it when Apple gets around to fixing it.
Seems to me that the Apple phablet is to be IPS only and he is taking a swipe at the Note Apple are going to copy cheaply.

A first (for Apple) will be a 720p phone.

I think he was talking to the followers to calm them down, that Master still has only the best for them. And if something elsewhere looks better then it is not.

This is so simple to understand, I do wonder if you are on a wind up here.

Glad you've failed to realise the Asian market has surprisingly adopted the cheaper/larger smartphone and currently Apple has no product that meets that need. I personally think Apple should stay out of that market regardless as releasing at low/medium budget phablet phone will destroy all their principles in one go.

I do agree the Apple multi-tasking is becoming backwards when you want communication information quickly (messaging, e-mail etc). I don't believe you need to use more than one application at the time, but the way to chop and change needs to improve. If you look at Blackberry 10, they've got that right and on a roll.

My experience is not dissimilar.

I have had an iPad 2 since launch and it has never crashed, my Nexus 7 has crashed half a dozen times. I also find the iPad more consistently faster even though on paper that shouldn't be the case.

My Nexus 4 on the other hand has worked great and hasn't crashed yet, it's also so much fast than my Nexus 7, totally lag free.

I have always preferred IPS displays but the more I see the S3s screen the more I prefer it.

Hmmmm read a few different reports of this now so you must have some inside knowledge that all journalists are unaware of.

He was not asked why they do not use amoled displays unless you can show different. He decided to proffer his view on them when refusing to answer a question about larger displays not design choices.

So every report I have read says he brought this up when asked about plans for a larger display. Sounds like deflection to me .. Does it not to you?

Always had oled screens recently bought n4 and just couldn't get on with screen had to go back to amoled.

Personally they can't be matched for me.

But they look superb mostly.

Why do you think that? HTC are the disappointment currently with a majority of rubbish hardware (bar the imminent release announcement coming up), Sony's phones have been quite weak and everyone else have sold well enough. Okay, maybe LG have helped with the latest Nexus but it's still not enough to push Android further out. Like iPhone, Android is hitting a saturation point also IMHO.
