New DTR T-1000 Youview Box - Last Impressions
Clusterbombed
14-02-2013
As a companion piece to the 'First Impressions' thread I started back in August, I thought I'd mention that my T-1000 lasted just over six months!

Problems arose last week when it wouldn't boot up. The 'Nearly Ready' screen with the moving dots was a constant. Luckily, I discovered 'Maintenance Mode' so managed to reboot the box while keeping my recordings.

Two days later the same thing happened again. The same fix only lasted a couple of hours this time. Then other problems started manifesting themselves.

Recordings would not schedule, although I could schedule reminders. Pressing the Delete button would mute the sound and freeze the graphics on the Recordings screen, although the TV picture in the top right box would continue as normal. The On Demand players would either be missing, or have just their name rather than a logo in the box, or a pop-up with an error code would appear briefly (too briefly to actually take a note of the error code!). Recordings would pause randomly during playback, or freeze the entire box.

Finally, I decided to do a full factory reset in Maintenance Mode. It didn't work. The box refused to boot up at all.

A couple of calls to Humax means that I'm in line for a replacement box, however I'll have to wait as they have none in stock - I'm speculating that it may be because of the launch of the T-1010. And therefore will my replacement box be a T-1010?

As it is, the T-1000 is in a box waiting collection by a courier next week, and my trusty old 9200T has been rescued from the back of a cupboard and worked perfectly from the moment it was plugged in (although I'd forgotten how noisy the hard drive is!)

Noisy hard drive??? not on mine. Are you sure it's the hard drive and not the fan, and even then it's the air being drawn through the fan, not the fan itself.

Three weeks later, and I still don't have a replacement box from Humax. Originally I was told 'none in stock'. Now I've been told the guy I was dealing with has left the company, which is why my emails have gone unanswered.

My patience is being stretched...

This looks like you need to quote the "sale of goods act" to them.

Only applies if Humax was the retailer selling the box. In that case the claim is against Humax Direct.

I am sure that the distant selling part of the "Sale of Goods Act" should cover some of this issue.

Your rights under SOGA are confined to the retailer who sold you the goods. Under UK law the manafacturer doesn't have a legal obligation to provide a warranty at all.

This is the point at which you need to request details of their formal complaints process and now start sending letters, the real type through the post preferably. Sadly you have to give them a fair chance to rectify things before you proceed to the small claims court.

I bought a box via Amazon, I've actually had it a couple of months, got around to setting it up, but sadly, after 5 minutes of 'please wait' and resetting the hdmi resolution, both the TV and front panel of box went blank. The on button is still lit blue. It even goes in and out of standby on the remote, but no output. I've tried a restart with the power hard switch, no change. I have 2 surround systems and 3 TVs here, tried all 3, same result. Very very disappointed. Anything else to try before sending it back?

Sounds broke to me. Do you get anything out of the scart connection, if so try another hdmi cable.

Doesn't your TV have a scart socket ?

No. As everything I have has DVI or HDMI I have never bothered installing scart video boards. Panasonic pro panels.

And in the case of 2 of them, you couldn't reach it even if they did, all built in.

& send it recorded delivery, surprising how many complaint letters get lost in the post when not recorded!

I should have updated this thread saying that I received a new box from Humax last week, four weeks after initially contacting them. So far, it works perfectly!
