Sugababes Debate
Siobhán Donaghy(1998–2001)
Mutya Buena(1998–2005) Keisha Buchanan(1998–2009) Heidi Range(2001–present) Amelle Berrabah(2005–present) Jade Ewen(2009–present) Ok so MKS have reformed and everyone is buzzing from the original lineup being back together... but what irks me a little bit is how Heidi's contribution seems to have been relegated! I am a big Siobhan fan and love her solo work (Ghosts being one of my favourite albums ever) But she was only in the band for pushing 3 years and their only "household" hit was "Overload". Whereas, after Heidi joined they really hit the stratosphere in terms of success. What I would like to know is what everyone thinks on the order of "entitlement" for the girls in the band, so essentially a ranking of worthiness. Personally id say: Mutya, Keisha and Heidi are all on par with their contributions followed by Amelle as she provided various hits for the band and her entry into the group was a success at the time. Next I would say Siobhan as her only contribution really is being a founding member and lastly Jade Ewen because... well shes not done really anything. |

My ranking would go as follows in terms of entitlement that is:
1. Keisha and Heidi, they both put in many years of hard work and were part of the star line-up, Heid bought the approachability and Keisha bought the soul. 2. Mutya, she left prematurely, I belive her talent led her to be a huge force within the group, but honestly, she left whilst they were in their prime, IMO she gave up any right to the name. 3. Amelle, Mutya's replacement, I feel terrible for her, she had such big shoes to fill and a lot of fans were against her at first, personally I absolutely loved her voice, so deep and unique, she did Mutya's parts well and she bought a dash of sexiness to the group. 4. Siobhan, if it wasn't for her I guess the group would have never formed, but she left so early into their career I barely class her as a Sugababe tbh, only one hit single with the group and that was it really. 5. Jade, very talented but like Amelle, had big shoes to fill, and I don't believe the material on Sweet 7 allowed her to show off her talent tbh. When Keisha was booted I was hurt, but I think people took it way too far, I had never heard ANYONE say that Keisha was their fave member, and all of a sudden everyone loved her, a classic case of sympathising, I believe Keisha used to be a bully, but has since grown out of it, I believe that being booted from the group forced her to grow up. I am excited for MKS, not the star line-up but near enough for it to feel like the Sugababes are back, I also want Ver.4 to return, we haven't seen what they can really do yet, it's a waste of talent. |

Entitlement order:
1 Heidi (as you say, if she hadn't joined the group would be nowhere) 2 Keisha (she did work hard - but I don't really like her as a person) 3 Mutya (she worked hard - but she left too early) 4 Amelle (she was there when they did About You Now - their best selling single ever) 5 Siobhan (she was one of the originals, I think she wanted to make it work but it didn't, and they didn't have success with her) 6 Jade (not really done much..) But my favourites in order: 1 Heidi 2 Mutya 3 Jade 4 Siobhan 5 Keisha 6 Amelle Jade and Siobhan are just in the middle because I have no opinion on them whatsoever. |

No matter what happens to the original Sugababes and 4.0., it's a fact that the second line-up will remain the best, most successful and most instantly recognizable version of the group. 2.0. ARE the Sugababes. They gave us 3 amazing pop albums and a huge catalogue of smash hits.
I still think that had Mutya stayed in the group, they would have had a lot of further success. Without her, it just wasn't the same. That said, I do think that 4.0. were never given a real chance. The commerical disaster that was 'Sweet 7' was initially recorded by 3.0. except for one song and 4.0. only had the chance to release one solo single, which wasn't even eligible to chart ('Freedom'), which imo, is much closer to the original Sugababes sound than anything 3.0. released with an original member included in the line-up. Anyway, my favorites in order are : 1)Mutya, 2) Heidi (her bridges were always epic and took the songs to the next level), 3)Keisha, 4)Amelle, 5)Jade, 6)Siobhan |

2. Mutya 3. Siobhan 4. Heidi 5. Amelle 6. Jade I think it's only fair that the founding members are in the top three (I've put them in order of who stuck with the group the longest). Heidi is clearly amazing and was part of the best Sugababes line-up. I love Amelle, but she was there for the group's decline and she only had one huge hit with them. I like Jade too, but I don't really think of her as a 'proper' Sugababe, at least not until she releases an original album with them. |

For me, Keisha and Heidi have joint entitlement to the Sugababes 'brand'. They both spent a lot of time in the group and were a part of the biggest line-up. I said in another thread, when Heidi joined they stopped being three moody girls behind a mic stand, the public had someone they could warm too and in time, she at least helped to take away that cold edge Mutya and Keisha seemed to have.
Mutya IMO left at the wrong point. TIMW was huge for the girls, they had the #1 Single, Single Download and Album simultaneously, the first group (possibly) artist to have done that.and had she stayed, I'm sure the group would have risen and risen. Instead there was a steady decline from About You Now to Keisha's departure. Siobhan quit and Jade hasn't been there long enough nor released enough original stuff to have an opinion on entitlement, they both rank joint least for me. 1. Heidi/Keisha 2. Mutya 3. Amelle 4. Siobhan/Jade I'd much prefer a 2.0 reunion than a 1.0 reunion, the classic line-up that brought 'Freak Like Me', 'Round Round', 'Stronger', 'Breathe Easy' amongst many other classic songs. I'm excited for what MKS can bring to the table 13 years later but also want Sugababes to return because as has been mentioned, it's a big waste of talent when Heidi, Amelle and Jade could be something big |

i also agree that Mutya left too early, and how thing`s would have turned out if she held on just a little while longer, imo the album following Mutya`s departure catfights was it called? didn`t help them, tbh i can only go off the god awful singles they released (girls & no can do) as i didn`t hear the album but going by these singles i can`t imagine it was very good album and the public interest in them quickly dropped. |

I think Sugababes 2.0 was the best lineup. If Heidi hadn't joined the group I doubt they would have been as successful as they eventually became. Some of their biggest hits were released with Heidi and the songs 2.0 released defined their career. The music they put out was different from other girl groups of the era and Angels With Dirty Faces is a brilliant pop album.
My favourite members in order: 1) Heidi 2) Mutya 3) Keisha 4) Amelle 5) Jade 6) Siobhan |

Agree with most of you guys, I loved 2.0 and to me they will always be the "sugababes" would have loved it if they reunited instead of the originals.

I remember the original line up, at the time they were children, around 14, 15 and the album was brilliant. They were more of an urban-pop group at that time, but once Siobhan left they became a lot more mainstream pop - and although it sold better I've never thought that Heidi's voice fit the group, I think she sounds awful.
I don't want to see 2.0 reunite I think they were at their worst when it comes to sound and quality material. I much prefer 3.0 if there has to be any choice at all. In terms of harmonies, I think Jade (the best singer), Mutya, and Amelle would sound the best together. |

Siobhan is by far the strongest artist out of all the girls. Go and listen to her albums..or Don't Take Me Back if you can find it.

It's never going to happen but I'd like the end of the Sugababes to be all six girls on a track, release a greatest hits and do a tour which shows the history of the group.. But I don't want them to end as I think judging them on Freedom, Heidi, Amelle and Jade have a lot to offer |

On a sidenote, does anyone remember the solo buzz Amelle had in 2008/2009? She scored a big number one single with Tinchy and the Sugababes were on a high again - there was talk of her going solo and i think her and keisha had teething problems because she was a bit jealous of Amelles success. Anyway looking back she should have left then to capitalize on her popularity. |

If any reunion is to happen, I would love to see 2.0. together again. It's not just the commercial success, but also the quality of the music that went downhill after Mutya's departure for some reason. 'TIMW' remains their best album. But even if there's no reunion, I wouldn't mind MKS and 4.0. releasing music simultaneously. I would support them both if the music was good and I'm actually hoping both of them get a fair chance to showcase their potential in the future. |

I just feel like with these girls someone is always a scapegoat, after Siobhan left she blamed Keisha (which sounded justified) and then Mutya and Keisha(K) blamed her and welcomed Heidi(H). Then Mutya leaves and K&H throw subtle digs at her. Then K leaves and Amelle and Heidi say she was difficult to work with. Now the old girls are back together saying they've "matured".
I dont think this is the case, if you look at the combinations it seems apparent that Keisha is very stubborn and thinks highly of herself and has a jealous/nasty streak and only seems to respect Mutya. None of the other girls have ever really criticized each other at all it just seems that whatever goes against Keisha at the time is the target of a verbal attack! Personally, i cant see MKS lasting - I can see Siobhan and Keisha clashing again once promotion kicks in and they have to spend a lot of time together. Whereas, 4.0 seem to gel really well - the combination of Heidi, Amelle and Jade seems like three nice girls who get on. |

They were basically kids at the time of the first album and thought like normal girls do now. Keisha may have been a bully, she may not have been but these three girls have grown up and matured.
2.0 may have released better quality music but the connections and the real comeback relies with the three beginning girls. Heidi was just a passenger. |
