how to download/update a PVR?

I've found the website that lists the updated download for my Humax PVR (which is playing up and, I understand, needs this update) but I don't know how to do it. How can I link this info to my PVR (which is plugged to my TV not my computer)?

Knowing which Humax pvr would help. The earlier ones need a PC with a serial port, later ones use a usb memory stick.

As far as I am aware the Humax website includes full instructions for how to update their machines. Usually a link on the same page as the download.

Download it onto a memory stick, put it into the Humax USB and it will find it and install it.

Full instructions here

Really easy....

Which model?
A USB stick will be no good for a 9xxx model, you need to use the serial port and the right cable.

Yes it's a 9300T. I have a laptop and a memory stick.

The website I have found is

http://www.humaxdigital.com/uk/suppo...ategory_seq=63

What does it mean by check your system ID before you select a new software? What is a system ID?

By STB (set top box) I guess they mean PVR?

Thanks for your posts thus far.

You would be surprised how many of these older boxes are on out of date software.

I didn't even realise my PVR software was out of date until it didn't record some programmes and I looked into why!

Never even knew the software could/had to be updated!

Anyway would really appreciate some help with my post #8 - the questions I raise there. Many thanks.

The System ID is I think on the Status option on the System Menu. Not entirely sure I bothered to do this with my 9150T the one and only time I did an update from my laptop. And yes they do mean PVR when they say STB. Though STB is commonly used to refer to a non-recording box.

The biggest problem you are likely to have is finding a serial port on your computer. They have been steadily replaced by USB and so you might find your machine doesn't have one. Which is not an insurmountable problem, just makes it a bit more difficult and expensive.

If your computer does not have a serial port then you will need to buy a USB to serial converter. Plus the serial lead, which from memory I think has to be a null modem type (which isn't mentioned in the manual!). Or buy a standard lead with a null modem adapter plug then you can try it both ways round.

I think you've never opened your instruction book.

There has been so many repeat OTA (Over The Air) software transmissions for this box that you may already be on the latest software. Check in Menu > System > Status for the software version, the latest version for the 9300 is UPTTF 1.00.26. The latest repeat of this software was from Monday to Wednesday (11th to 13th) this week.

For that model you need a RS-232C serial cable. http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/388237...7Cprd:38823706 and usb convertor http://www.google.co.uk/shopping/pro...d=0CIUBEPMCMAA

http://www.humaxdigital.com/uk/suppo...ategory_seq=63 click software link and follow these instructions.

Depending on the version of Windows your PC is running, you might find http://www.tynecomp.co.uk/flash9200.html easier.
