If they do not do Spam Fritters, it has to be a smoked sausage supper with chippy brown sauce. Yum!

Liverpool. I assure you we don't have saveloy here and we don't call curry "curry sauce"

I'm yet to see one of those in a chippy up north. Sound nice though.

I'm surprised as I would consider them more of a Northern food.
Possibly it is Manchester and Lancashire rather than Merseyside?

They are certainly popular in the North East although i've not experienced them from a chippy (I don't tend to get anything other than fish & chips from the chippy) just from the butchers & supermarket.

I'm yet to see them in a chippy in Liverpool, and I've been to a lot of chippies yes, maybe it is more of a Lancashire/Manchester thing?

I live in the South Yorkshire area and only found them once in a Tesco but they stopped selling them a while ago and never found anywhere else that sells them.

If anyone knows where I can get some please tell me.
(I've tried at the Doncaster market but the meat market doesn't have them either.
Amazon and Ebay are useless)

pineapple rings in batter
batter bits
decent onion gravy (not just mixed from powder)

only seem to find the above in the North East.

also curry sauce, but the best stuff is from Chinese Chippys. Can't stand the stuff you get down here in London where they just shove a polystyrene cup of pre-mixed powder stuff in the microwave, they just don't get it.

Me and the wife usually share a large Cod and share a large battered sausage, with chips and plenty of S&V.

Is this a euphemism?

I like a nice tail end burnt black with chips and scraps with plenty of salt and vinegar, if I'm feeling plush a nice carton of curry sauce as well.

Nowhere in Scotland does scraps? Or do you just mean the ones local to you?

Locally, as a veggie - there's nothing for me - not even a cheese/veg pasty. Even the chips aren't cooked in pure veg oil.

My late Dad used to ask for them for his 'parrot' - apparently, they gave him shiny feathers.
1 - my late Dad never owned a parrot

Wow!! They sound low calorie

When I'm up in Scotland I will make it my mission to try one.

The worst thing about Scottish chippy's is they mainly do haddock and leave the bones in.

Haddock down here (on the south coast) always has skin on too. I prefer cod and our local chippy claims his is responsibly sourced so I don't feel guilty. We buy three fish and one large chips and it's enough for three of us - the portions are huge. If I'm on my own then it's sausage in batter, fishcake and "small" chips.

There is one local chippy which still fries in beef dripping one day a week. It's an occasional treat for the sake of my arteries but it makes killer fish and chips when compared to veg oil.

I have never seen them anywhere in Scotland. Lots of English places do them though!
