Hi there,

So about a week ago I requested to have my old 3GS unlocked, and received a text while ago saying that the code had been sent to my email - but nothing!

Didn't think iPhones required a code?

They don't! Perhaps it is a standard text message they send when the request gets processed!

If they have done it next time the iPhone is connected to iTunes it should say it is being unlocked.

iPhones unlock differently to other handsets.
They can only be unlocked via iTunes as has been said.
With any other phone the network can send you the code directly.
With iPhones you request the unlock to the network. The network then authorises this and sends the request to Apple.
Apple update their database and when you plug your iPhone into iTunes it gets unlocked.
You won't have much luck yet though. It takes 14 days.

My original iPhone 3G was bought on eBay locked to O2. Went on the O2 website, typed in the IMEI and requested unlocking.
Got a message back saying the unlock would take 14 days and there would be no other communication from O2 in between.
Sure enough, on the 14th day I plugged it into iTunes and it popped up a message saying the phone was unlocked!
I had tried nearly everyday before this though and no joy

Same here, it was more like 2-3days for me, that was from o2 a few years back

Just keep your usb cable connected into your computer then each time your on it just plug the phone it and boot up itunes to check if they have done it.

This was about 4 years a go. They may have speeded up the process now and I should have mentioned that. Sorry.

From iOS 5 you don't need iTunes to unlock and iPhone. You just need an internet connection on the phone.
