When did ITV1+1 London increase the resolution? I'm sure this channel was at 544x576 previously?

Always been 704x576 in the Meridian region. Can't see why London would have been any different unless you had more channels on that mux before.

London ITV+1 from Crystal Palace has been 704x576 from at least near its start. Can't see why London from relays would have been any different.

Anglia has ITV+1 at 704x576. I just checked and ITV2 is too. Not sure how long that has been the case.

From Belmont, all the following are now 704x576

How odd. E4, More4 and CH4+1 are still all 544x576 from Rowridge.

They also were from Crystal Palace last time I checked. Can anyone else verify the situation with Belmont?

Sorry to quote myself. I just checked my PC DVB-T tuner to make sure I wasn't having a senior moment when I looked yesterday.

All the channels listed above are definitely using 704x576 from Belmont transmitter.

probably a (hitherto) secret test of multiplex configuration / encoders limited to a certain region. Reminds me of the ITV News Channel situation in 2004/5 when it took several months for all encoders to be upgraded to carry 4 streams on ITV's side of the multiplex, which resulted in most of the country (except London) losing the channel for a while.

Let's hope so and that it soon gets rolled out to the rest of the country.

Out of interest, how do you determine what the resolution settings are for a particular channel? I have two PVRs and a TV, and I don't see that info on any of them.

I use the DTT tuner card in my PC.

I have a KWORLD USB 2.0 DVB-T 300U tuner for a PC. The software that came with it is cr*p, but it does show the resolution.

The software I use is NextPVR, which is much better, but doesn't show the screen resolution.

PS. This may be unrelated, but one of my Freeview boxes now crashes after 4 seconds when it receives a signal. The box is a cheap Bush (Vestel clone).
It shows picture, then goes to a black screen after 4 seconds, just leaving the audio.
Box does not respond to remote after 4 seconds.
Needs power cycle, then crashes again, if any signal is being received.
If aerial is not plugged in, the box will respond to remote and access to menu is available. Plug aerial in, box crashes again.
Factory reset doesn't work either.
Maybe Belmont TX has done something!

Thanks. I suspected that it was probably something done using a PC card, which I don't have (nor have an aerial feed available for), but just wondered.

Is that happening on all channels? (do you get chance to change channel?)

The screen going blank a few seconds after tuning into a channel is often caused by an MHEG auto-load application. Usually it is accompanied by the audio breaking up. It is possible it could crash your box.

However, it's likely limited to just one TV channel if it's MHEG related, hence my first question. If it is all channels on a mux then it might be something up with the configuration of that mux. If it is all channels everywhere then.. um... no idea!

It doesn't matter as it's only a cheap box.
It happens on all channels and on all MUXes (no picture and box lock-up after 4 seconds, leaving audio only).
Once this happens, you can't change channel (or do anything else).
It's got me scratching my head too.

Channel 4+1, E4 and More 4 are all still in 544x576 here from Mendip. Hopefully they will all follow Belmont soon! What's the picture quality like Chris?

Same here from Winter Hill - all 8 D3&4 video streams showing as 704x576i in TSReader Lite.

I hope this happens at Rowridge soon.

Well, unless they have improved the bitrate, it is going to make fast moving stuff like football more Lowryesque. (matchstick men)
