Tips for cooking topside beef please

^^ This. I can't understand why supermarkets sell it as a roasting joint unless you roast it long and slow.

I don't get it either - definitely not a roasting joint.

Braised is the way to go - with red wine, stock and veg. It's great in the slow cooker, OP, if you've got one. If not, in a casserole with a tight-fitting lid, in a very low oven, for a long time.

Unless it's a sirloin beef joint is it best braising other beef joints in the slow cooker as i've got a top rump beef joint?

It's not a prime joint so if you want it pink it's going to be a bit chewy unless you can slice it wafer thin. I would do a pot roast low and slow like others have said.

Thanks very much everyone. I'm going to slow cook it for about four hours in red wine, onions, garlic and seasoning. I'll report back.
