Please take a look at this Facebook page and protect your furry friend from something that you may unwittingly be bringing into your home which could prove fatal:

To protect our pets, it would be great if you could like this page and share it with others.

Well done for highlighting the issue, hopefully little Eddy's sad passing will help educate owners and save other dogs from suffering anything similar x

I agree, hence http://www.Facebook.com/The.Eddy.Project

We have a campaign planned and hope to get a normal website up soon too.

Anything you can do would be much appreciated, Muze.

As I give my dog yoghurt pots to "clean" this was most alarming to read, I shall stop immediately.

Thank you for bringing this to attention- maybe posting this in general too would alert others?

Shared on FB too.

I dont have facebook, but can see the page. Its about the dangers of xylitol to dogs and how its in a lot of processed foods that you may not expect.

It's scary when you realise that you could be poisoning your pets, I know we had a thread before on weird things pets eat which I attached the links below, until I had cats I must admit I did not know half the things that were harmful to them:

For those that don't have the pet poison lists already:

What a shock. I too, let my dogs lick my yoghurt tops.

Never again.

Poor little Eddy.

I am so pleased I read this forum.

It was a huge, horrible shock for us. To be fair, not all yoghurts contain it. But if it only says "sugar alcohols", it may still do because the manufacturers hide xylitol within that sometimes.

Thank you for the info,I was aware of food such as chocolate etc. but not this. My huskys sometimes grab chewing gum off the pavement when out on walks but I will be more vigilant from now on.

The chewing gum is, I think, the biggest problem.

A neighbour told us today that their fairly new puppy had got hold of a packet of mints - not strong ones but quite sweet. Fortunately they didn't contain xylitol otherwise it would have died because it's so small.

Please see the website for more info http://www.projecteddy.weebly.com

I read somewhere recently that "pavement chewing gum" may already have had the xylitol chewed out of it so may not be a problem. Not worth the risk finding out though, is it?

Our cat loves licking the top of a piece of garlic bread. I'll put a stop to that. That might explain the tummy upsets she gets occasionally
