Just as well, isn't An Adventure... possibly scheduled for the Friday night before the Anniversary? Don't want Pudsey stealing our ratings.”

It'll be the week after. So I'd say the Thursday 21st or Friday 22nd. Thursday because the Brian Cox doc is on the previous Thursday, or Friday because that's the same day it's airing in the US.

I thought it would air the Saturday before The Day Of The Doctor for some reason.

Those, particularly the second track, would be ideal for Doctor Who itself

I would have thought Murray Gold would have done the music for this, as both Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat are producers for this.
I wonder if by getting Edmund Butt to do the music for An Adventure, there sort of giving him a trial to be a potential successor to Murray Gold?
By the sounds of it, and as said above, I also think his music would work well in Who itself.

It could be that they didn't want to burden Murray (and Ben Foster) with double the workload for the anniversary. They could very well have been up for it and capable of it, but I like to think this way they've saved their creative juices for 'Day of the Doctor'.

Plus, Edmund Butt is a great composer and I'm glad he's finally got Doctor Who on his resumé (sort of) !

Some great tracks there. This is the kind of darker, edgier music I would imagine working well alongside the Twelfth Doctor...much less overstated, though a little bit Children of Earth.

I really like Murray Gold and he's done a superb job, but I have to admit that I'm at the point where I wouldn't mind seeing what a different composer could bring to the table when Moffat decides to step down.

Some people were lucky enough to see a not-quite-finished version of the Christmas special today. One person on GB described it as 'heartbreaking', and one of the best post-2005 episodes too

That's quite a claim Matt deserves nothing less.

Or maybe Murray Gold doesn't rule the world and there are lots of talented people in the world and someone, somewhere at the BBC is waking up to the realization that it might be nice to use a little more of that talent for Doctor Who.

Follow up about 11's regen:

Spoiler
Matt will be spectacular in the xmas special, what we expect... the big speech, the emotion but most of all when he goes he is proud and upstanding, he knows he has to go, he accepts it, with reflection he goes... but it's such a nice regeneration, better than 10's

Glad to hear this... to me, as a regeneration story this has to stand up to The Parting of the Ways in terms of high quality. If it's closer to The End of Time I'll be disappointed, though it doesn't sound like that's what we're getting

Perfect description of what we hoped to get for the send off of Matt and Eleven, and as you say looks like we are

While I'm happy not knowing plot points, or even who the Big Bad is in the story, I'm quite keen to know whether the Special loosely ties in with the events of The Day of the Doctor.

I'm rather hoping for a loose trilogy at this stage... The Name of the Doctor, The Day of the Doctor and The Time of the Doctor or something

That and any other aspects of Elevens era he can without making it an info dump.

Really looking forward to this now, I knew Matt would knock it out of the park. I wonder if it could get him another Bafta nomination.

Would be interesting if it did.

One of the Outpost Skaro people is suggesting that Damien Molony (Being Human, Ripper Street) has been cast in Series 8. Doesn't say who as, but he seems to imply it'll involve a 'darker route'...

https://twitter.com/Eddie_At_Skaro/s...72157535555584

Could be completely wrong of course, pinch of salt and all that.

He would make a fantastic Master. And contrast against Capaldi's older Doctor.

My thoughts exactly Though he'd make a fantastic anything, to be honest.

Or a Turlough-esque companion.

Plus dark might not mean evil or bad as such.

If his casting is true.

I can imagine the fangirls reaction if it is.

Tumblr folk are suggesting that Gillian Anderson has been lined up for a role in Doctor Who for Series 8. I couldn't find a basis for the claims, other than she has teased her involvement in a "sci-fi project" which she can't talk about yet. I'm more inclined to believe it'll be a third X Files film, though I'll be suitably ecstatic if either are the outcome
(That said I still wanted her to be a companion to the Doctor)

Also, nothing remotely spoilery unless you're visiting from 2004. Here's a delightful picture of Christopher Eccleston filming Father's Day How anybody could say this guy was too serious for the role is beyond me... reminds me of how much I miss him in the show.
