She just recognized the name Dalek Asylum because the Doctor had told her she had died there.

As she had not yet gone into the Timestream she would not have had any memories of her other lives at that point.

In Day of the Doctor she says she vaguely remembers meeting the 10th Doctor.

Doh - guess I'll watch the clip properly this time!

I don't know if some of Brian Minchin's production notes from DWM have been posted...

Quote:
“One of our unnamed new writers sent me a Medieval poem that read like a Doctor Who story (bet you can't guess what it is)”

Quote:
“Neil Gorton has just emailed across a unique and stunning sketch for a creature for Episode 6 (not sure how we'll do it, but we must!)”

Quote:
“Another writer has just sent an email with a germ of an idea that I know will be amazing - lots to unpick there but by God it'll be worth it”

Quote:
“That is the way that things get good. This is how we'll make this series of Doctor Who one that we're all proud to call ours.”

Well if the Medieval poem isn't Beowulf I'm stuffed guess-wise!

I suppose it depends on what he means by "like a Doctor Who story". Ulrich von Zatzikhoven's Lanzelet, for instance, is episodic, weak on continuity, and draws on a variety of literary genres, and thus fits my general idea of "a Doctor Who story" better than Beowulf, but I doubt that that's what Mr Minchin has in mind. I suspect that either you're right and it's going to be Beowulf, or it will be yet another modern retread of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. The latter is my best guess.

It's good to hear that Minchin is enthused by the non-Moffat scripts & ideas. It feels like an eternity since Caro Skinner left.

Plus "one of our new writers."

Please no Chaucer. Holy crap once I realised that most UK lit courses dowsed you in that stuff I changed my whole career path.

Chaucer was a powerful, intelligent, witty, and innovative writer, who permanently reshaped English (and Scottish) literature, which is why he is required reading for "most UK lit courses". However, this was over 600 years ago, and so much has changed in the interim that most modern students require a well-thought-out introduction from a good teacher to be able to get to grips with him. Please don't give up on him: you will be immeasurably the richer if you can get the Canterbury Tales under your belt (stuff like the Treatise on the Astrolabe can obviously be disregarded). The Riverside Chaucer might be a good place to start.

That being said, I can't think of any poem by Chaucer that might read like a Doctor Who story, so you're probably safe in that respect.

Yes it was.

It should be hived off into a different syllabus.

But, look, I did my first degree in the late 80s. And if I hadn't run from stifling agendas of british teaching I wouldn't have studied Emerson, Thoreau, Dickinson, and Whitman.

I wouldn't have lived in the USA.

I would have been stuck in a room talking about why the Miller's Tale was hilarious because someone in the 12th century stuck their arse out of a window.

I realise that this isn't really Dr Who related- but Chaucer is brilliant- I know on first glance the text is a bit weird, but if you read it allowed (in a welsh r West Country accent usually helps) its no different from Shakespeare

I kind of feel episode 2 is too early for a Dalek story. I'd almost push it to a later episode that one, if possible.

There's no way they'd make episode 2 of a new Doctor's run a Doctor-lite episode. For all his faults the Moff isn't stupid.

From Director Paul Murphy's twitter account;
Quote:
“Day 1 working on Doctor Who! Time to climb aboard the TARDIS ....”

Episode 2 finished already? That'd be quick, especially considering the time it took to film Episode 1.

Not Necessarily, they could theoretically film two episodes at once if they have two different directors.

Looks like the 'Kick up the Arse Doctor' is applying boot to posterior both behind and in front of the camera!

It seems like it's episodes 3 and 6 that are forming block 2 of filming.

And if the rumors are correct we should be watching the first one in about 6 months.
