Gatiss can write as many episodes as he likes, providing the announcement isn't that he is taking over as Showrunner!

Speculation on my part, but my guess is that he'll do Series 8 and Series 9 to establish Capaldi's Doctor and maybe work in a third main female companion once Clara leaves to match RTD who had a main three, and then it'll be a handover to someone else to see what they do with Capaldi's Doctor for Series 10. Provided Capaldi stays at least three years, but then as I said...speculation
So apparently Sylvester McCoy has claimed he knows who The Master is - expecting him to be 'very scary' when described at Newcastle Comic Con. According to one of the usual sources cited here, he was cast two months ago.
