Oh. Wait. Moffat has cast a brilliant female actor in a prominent role. Is this sexist yet?

I'm glad of the Keeley Hawes announcement. Such a beautiful woman and a fine actress too.

Yes. He gave Danny a real name but her a weird name that sounds like FOX. Moffat should quit now.

Just as long as she isn't too clever and sassy and sexy and intelligent because then she will just be an insulting sexual fantasy of a strong woman and an insult to every female ever.

But at the same time she had better not be a weak or underdeveloped character because that's also sexist and an insult to every female ever.

Basically she had damn well better fit the perfect archetype of a female character as imagined by a few angry tumblr users or else I fear Moffat could face the sack.

They're dressing the Coleman up nicer this year, judging by the random pics we see. Good stuff. Its about time the companions looked a bit sexy again.

So according to the BBC article this new Ms.Delphox character appears in the Steve Thompson episode...which I believe is down as episode five?

Moffat - Episode 1
Ford - Episode 2
?? - Episode 3
Moffat - Episode 4
Thompson - Episode 5

Not that I can think of but the name made me think of the Delphic Oracle or Pythia!

If you squint really hard and then don't look at it, it could be either Rani or Romana.

Don't worry, I'm sure the Tumblr 'feminists' will find something to complain about.

I love Keeley Hawes and have wanted to see her on the show for a while now, so this is great news for me.

I just hope Delphox is an excellent character too.

The usual suspects have already started complaining.

'Just another Moffat archetype'.

Are these people actually stupid? He isn't even writing the bloody episode. But of course this is Moffat! Its all his idea. He has secretly written the entire episode, designed the costume and no doubt managed to brainwash experienced actor Keeley Hawes into portraying the character exactly as he wants to fit his vicious agenda. Why cant he start writing some more rounded and realistic female characters like the way King Whedon did with Black Widow in the Avengers? Alas we shall never know...

Or maybe he should take some tips from RTD and the way he wrote Lady Christina. She has after all become a feminist icon and someone all young girls can look up to as a realistic role model.

I wonder sometimes if these morons realise theyre watching a Science Fiction program and not a public information guide to equality and diversity in the workplace.

Could she be Madame Kovarian the younger?

I only want two episodes from the same writers (Moffat aside) if it's a two-parter. Otherwise, bring on the fresh blood!

I really hope not. I hate the idea that in this vast and infinite universe, every woman could be Kovarian/Tasha/River/Romana/Rani.

Is this the first time we've had someone who has time travelled in a different tv show join the Doctor Who cast?

Lol, except for John Simm ofcourse (!) doh, shakes head in embarassment

Well (spoilers for LoM/A2A)
Spoiler
technically neither Keeley or John Time travelled in LoM/A2A since the "Past" is actually Limbo.

I'm sure Ben Browder must have done some Time Travelling in either Farscape or Stargate.

Peter Capaldi starred in Drunk in Time

No, nothing to do with Kovarian.

That chapter in the show's story is done now.

Because it's a Doctor Who Spoiler Thread and not a Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes Spoiler thread.

Maybe I'm being too careful (as they are a few years old) but I didn't want anyone who hadn't seen them complaining about those series' being spoiled.

That seems so final because as a character, it would be good to see Madame Kovarian the younger, to understand Madame Kovarian the older and the reasons, if any, who she became and her relevance.

I DON'T want to see a young Madame Kovarian, there just isn't a need. Maybe one day, a passing reference to Tasha Lem, like the Captain Jack - Face of Boe reveal, but that's all.

Corwin - that's very courteous of you!

My hope for Series 8 is that Moffat himself takes some serious control over scripts.

I don't care for his "this is your show this week" statement. He should be moulding it in to his vision for the series. Especially when it comes to character progression, a bit more consistency would be great after series 7.

Paul Cornell knew what was up years ago.

Quote:
“Cornell works on one of the few UK productions with a showrunner. Russell T Davies, Doctor Who's executive producer, maps out the whole series, then divides episodes between a pool of writers. There are "tone" meetings and read-throughs, but otherwise no formally organised collaboration.

"If we want the showrunner concept to prosper, we're going to have to get the writer's room at some point," Cornell explains.”
