Doctor Who boss: handsome actors do not fit the bill for the Time Lord The Guardian

Here's the above link again... It doesn't seem to be working for me. http://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-ra...octor-who-role

Handsome is a point of view. 10 and 11 were cute. 12 will have charm all of his own. PC is same age as my dad and i think he looks good for it.

More Moffat

Quote:
“When Peter Capaldi makes his Time Lord debut proper in Doctor Who in the upcoming eighth series, no-one will really know what to expect.

However, showrunner Steven Moffat has given us a bit of a clue, and it looks like Clara Oswald's flirtatious relationship with the Time Lord is coming to an abrupt end.

He told the Radio Times: "[Peter] goes back to being the trickier version of the Doctor, the fiercer alien wanderer.

"He's not a human being, however much he larks around pretending he is.

"He is different and it's time to stop play-acting. He's not apologising, he's not flirting with you - that's over”

Oh please let Moffat deliver on these promises. Don't get me wrong. I loved all three New Who Doctors but it would be incredible to finally move on to something new or at least new for New Who...if you see what I mean. No doubt it will result in a flood of angry YouTube videos from cosplayers in their early twenties complaining that 'The Doctor is too alien and weird' but let that happen. No more 'Im SORRY. I'm really really really really really really so so so so so so so SORRY' and all that rubbish. Grumpy, splendid Gallifrey bad ass time please! Pure. Rebel. Timelord.

I don't care about all that, as long as he is a loveable version. I'm sure he will be.

As long as A) The doctor should have a sense of humour, be quirky etc

B) Not be too strict, dour and grumpy to make the idea of travelling through time with him some sort of victorian science project with a strict house master rather than excitement of friends exploring the universe together

...then I'm all for a new Direction for the character.

Serious Doctor (3, 7,) is a big turn off IMO.
Even Eccleston had enough light with his shade to make his serious northern acting moments worth putting up with.

Yes loveable is very important. But maybe slightly difficult to love at first so everyone slowly warms to him and then when we do it feels even more special. Matt and David were so instantly adorable..or at least I thought so...which was splendid but maybe make it a bit more of a journey this time. Not so cute and with a harder edge that slowly softens. I don't want super grumpy and unrelateable- that would be disastrous. But a bit of uncertainty to begin with so it shakes everything up a bit.

I have to agree. Tennant was great and smith wasn't bad either but making the doctor a bit 'spiky' and strange, to begin with at least, would be a nice change from him trying to almost play human for the benefit of humans. Ecclseston was a bit more brash than his successors and it never did his popularity any harm, so I think to combine that type of personality with a more pronounced alien-y type demeanor could make this doctor very intriguing.

I'm intrigued with what we'll get with Capaldi. Even more so now.

Rachel Talalay will be directing two episodes. Googled her and she's mainly worked in the US, but I see she did direct two episodes of Vic and Bob's 'Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased)'. Does this now mean we now need to use both hands to count female Doctor Who Directors? (Well, it's how I count because I'm a bit thick. )

Edit: No is the answer! Nearly approaching double figures, having had a quick google search.

Another Edit: She'll be the Ninth. Don't have to take my shoes and socks off yet.

tredecim (GB spoilerhound) has returned after a three month absence

“Trailer real soon. Poss 31st.”

Would corroborate previous report of the first teaser-trailer being late May / halfway through filming. There is a precedent.

But obviously, don't get your hopes up.

Oh I hope so! It seems amazing that we have this whole new era awaiting and we have seen and know so little. Even just a teaser would be fantastic. Though I am of course always superb impatient about these things as always...hence all my whinging about the comic con trailer for the fiftieth...i do think it would be good just to get something out there to remind everyone of the most important thing of all:

He's a coming!

And he's bringing 'that' look to strike fear into the hearts of the wrongdoers of the universe

Cools, another fan in the show, he must be chuffed

EDIT - just read this on the Beeb ->

Talking about his role in Doctor Who, Skinner said: "I love this show.

"I subscribe to Doctor Who magazine, I've got a Tardis ringtone, a five-foot cardboard Dalek in my bedroom and - when I got the call saying they wanted me to read for the part, I was in the back of my tour bus watching episode three of The Sensorites

If he's made to episode 3 of The Sensorites, he must be a fan.

The casting for this episode is pretty eclectic, isn't it?

It's... a little bit suspect, at present. If it's her, she's hammering the Doctor Who button very hard. Also, the tweet (taken down) just echoes the official statement, which real people rarely do, but people who are trying to give their fake account an air of veracity do quite a lot.

Equally, might genuinely be her - but, that maniac who went about pretending to be Chris Eccleston has left me a bit cynical! Once bitten, twice shy, etc. etc. She's being followed by Paul Wilmshurst, which means... maybe?
