I don't recall liking anyone on Skins, I've always hated that show. Either the actors were horrendously bad or it was the terrible writing they had to work with, but if it's somebody from Skins I'll have my doubts. :P

I think it was the writing as I largely hated the show as well... being 14/15 at the time it started, I was under the impression that this is what I was going to grow up to be like

I've seen the actors crop up in all sorts though. Nicholas Hoult has made a decent career for himself, he's in the X-Men films among other things. Kaya Scodelario started out with a bit part, and now she's in The Maze Runner films and the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean film (which with no regrets, I love immensely). Luca Pasqualino was in The Musketeers. Dev Patel went on to fame with Slumdog Millionaire, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and for better or for worse The Last Airbender. And Hannah Murray and Joe Dempsie have both played characters on Game of Thrones - the former still does, whilst the latter hasn't been seen in a while though was also in Doctor Who himself, in The Doctor's Daughter.

Yeah, I think it's a writing thing. I recall a homosexuality story I really didn't like in the show, and then I realised how much I really didn't like much about it at all. I recall Capaldi (and randomly Bill Bailey) cropping up though.

It probably boils down to the writing, as poor writing can destroy any hope of good acting and I generally found the whole premise to be dull, but I remember cringing at how bad the acting was.

I was initially introduced to it years ago by a friend who was obsessed with the show and forced me to watch it (we had an "I'll watch that if you watch this" sort of deal), and it just made me think "this show is probably a little too influential on her" It seemed like the perfect kind of thing for the mischevious teenager, and I found myself hoping I'd be nothing like that when I grew up. :P

Same here actually. Given my friends loved the show, it was odd to feel it was not only a bit unrelateable to me in any way but a complete contrast

If I understand it correctly the cast was actually changed for the show every two years. I don't know any of the latter casts at all really, though my friends seemed to lose interest as it went on.

Some high profile actors were involved in the later years - Jack O'Connell, Kaya Scodelario (although she was background in the first two years), Luke Pasqualino and Dakota Blue Richards.

Just looked at this thread for the first time for a while and discovered it's turned into a Skins thread! I loved the first series, brilliant writing and brilliant acting (dare I say recent Who could learn from it ). Second series was good too, but lost a bit of interest when cast was changed en masse.

I did watch at least one episode with a completely different cast from the originals, but it was the same boring characters, different dressing. All of my friends were fonder of the original cast, of which I'd seen the most, but if that was the show at its best then I don't think there's much hope for the rest of it. :P

As it's been a bad couple of days in Brussels, I'd just like to send solidarity out to any Doctor Who fans there who have been affected. In fact, not just Doctor Who fans, but everyone affected by the terrible events.

I didn't have any interest in Skins after the Second Series, as the cast was changed completely.

What a way to totally ruin a show that was doing very well.

I can sort of see why the cast was changed. Chris died, and Tony had an accident that left him mentally impaired for a while. They couldn't very well keep the same cast for Series 3. Wouldn't be the same.

And the show was always meant to be about sixth form - hence the two year turnover.

My guess is the companion will be announced in April as next week we'll finally have some casting information for Class, which I'm starting to warm to more and more.

For those interested in 'Class', news of a cast member

http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2016-...spin-off-class

Not an official announcement, but the article has a screen grab of an online profile of his where it says 'currently shooting a series regular role in 'Class', the new doctor who spinoff series for bbc3', so as close to official as you can get really.

BBC3? But that channel is gone from Sky. It's now only online. Don't tell me Class will never get a viewing on Sky, and that it's only going to be online.

I'm looking forward to seeing Class. Especially as Peter Capaldi's Doctor is to make a guest appearance in one episode.

If it is going to be online only, on the BBC3 website, then I can see DW fans complaining. Not everyone who is a DW fan, has got the Internet in their homes.

I have got the Internet in my house, both on the main PC in the living room, and on my laptop. The main PC has Windows 7, where as my laptop has Windows Vista. I tried loading Windows 10 onto my laptop a week or so ago, but it wouldn't take it.

Well I did think that if its bbc three online only, then that is probably another nail in the coffin of a show that I didn't expect to do very well or be any good anyway.

If the bbc have any sort of faith in it whatsoever though, they may put it on an actual channel after the online premiere. The most recent series of bbc three show 'Cuckoo' for example was only released after the bbc three tv channel had closed and for that, they were releasing the episodes online officially as bbc three, then repeating them a few days later on bbc one.

Also of course the 'bbc three' comment isn't officially confirmed, just a comment by an actor who may have been mistaken, though i'd think if an actor involved was stating a channel, they would likely know what they were talking about.

All BBC3 shows will be shown on BBC1 or 2 after they are shown on BBC3.

Not sure where you heard about Capaldi appearing, that's not been said AFAIK.

And on either BBC One or BBC Two, just the same as Thirteen over the past few weeks.

No writer's announced yet, but then that tends to align with the filming now... so I guess with the prospective start of filming in May we may at least be approaching the light at the end of the tunnel in terms of a lack of news. We'll have a companion announcement soon enough, and writers will start filtering through as will the exciting location details in due course. The worst bit is nearly over!

Couple more weeks i'd say before we hear some news.

Wasn't it about 4 weeks PC said the news of the companion is very close.

No need to announce anything until filming is about to start

With Sherlock and Class filming at the moment, and Peter spotted on the streets with another beard, I suspect filming on the main series won't be for a few weeks!

I read elsewhere that principal filming is more likely to start in June now.

Capaldi is going to the States for a couple of conventions in late May / start of June. Can't remember exact dates but the theory goes that it would be odd for them to start filming, let Capaldi go to the states for a week and then resume filming again. More likely it kicks off when he returns. Could be wrong though.

(for the avoidance of doubt: The theory isn't that they've delayed start of filming to let Capaldi do stuff, the other way round - filming starts June and therefore allows Capaldi to do stuff).

I do wonder if maybe they might film the Christmas special in May, let Capaldi do the US conventions and then start filming Series 10 either late June/early July?
