Yep, that's what he said.

“Why? For what reason does he think he needs to lead the pack rather than Beth or Gareth? Unless, of course, it's because even when he took second place in a group of eight he found himself in the SO. Clearly this evidence of a lack of popularity with the public shook him.”
And you've answered your own question there - Matt feels he needs to top the leaderboard to protect himself in the public vote. Unlike the others, he's got evidence that that's probably true.

“As for feeling vulnerable he's not the only one to face the SO but he is only one to turn on the tears. Keith found himself there four times but took it on the chin with a smile and I didn't see Shayne crying a river when he lost the SO to Matt. In fact Matt should have been grateful that his stumble didn't cost him his place in the competition.”
See, this is where we differ - I didn't connect Matt's tears with simply being in the SO, I thought he was upset because he'd underperformed and felt guilty that he'd messed up, and upset that his mate had been knocked out even though he'd messed up.
He certainly wouldn't be the first person upset by underperforming when it mattered. Seb Foucan in the last series was practically catatonic after screwing up his SO, and you only had to watch last season's SCD for tears of a similar sort from Victoria Pendleton.

“Does the BIB refer to me”
Yeah.

“- if so might I suggest a rethink. I am as entitled to my opinion as are you to yours and accusing me of distortion and manipulation hardly conforms to the rules of DS and the requirement to respect other posters.
I find no need for the rolling eyes smiley.”
Differing opinions are one thing. Stating two contradictory opinions in the same post, one of which is essentially based on twisting a person's words because you don't like that person, is another, and I don't see a problem with calling attention to inconsistencies and what I see as manipulation of words to suit your own version of events.
Feel absolutely free to report me if you feel that I'm showing a lack of respect by telling you you can't say two different things in the same post
