Anybody have an opinion on the update over the last few days?

It is being slaughtered in the reviews. They've switched it to the Bookstore. Not sure I want the new update so keeping the old app for now as I love it.

Avoid!! For the moment at least. Cursing downloading the update. Basically bug ridden and my pages won't load very well. If you download the ST you won't like this "improvement"

Still on the trial version from years ago. Screw your paywall Murdoch!

I haven't updated it yet.

But on the subject of the pay wall, I'd be inclined to agree with Murdoch.

Why should quality journalism be available for free?

You heard of advertising? Paywalls of the form the Times went for do not work. Why do you think nobody else has jumped on the bandwagon after a couple of years?

You should relish the consumer finally being king after decades of being ripped off.

Yes, I've heard of advertising.

I don't know why no-one has jumped on the bandwagon, but its clearly working for The Times.

Perhaps others are slow to jump on the bandwagon because they'd be in competition with The Times, and its a competition they might not be confident of winning.

I've still to download the new format and judging from the app reviews glad I haven't.

As for newspapers being available for free I don't want my newspaper full of ads. The Metro is not a serious newspaper and for quality journalism to continue I believe other revenue streams are key. I will happily continue to pay for a newspaper that I want to read. And many others agree.
