Neighbours have done it before with Libby Kennedy when Kym Valentine was ill.

How did they do it with Libby? She was a really major character, wasn't she?

Kevin Webster's such a longstanding, well-known character....... I honestly don't think they'd do it. They could get a temp mechanic I suppose, but it'd be too problematic to involve this new character in Sally's life and the Jenna story arc without looking daft.

I am sure they can access countless replacements for Kevin from Chester Zoo.

It would be a good idea but it would never happen.

I don't think people watching would be impressed,he's been a main character on the show far to long for them to use a replacement.. Awkward though, wonder how they are going to write him out with him not being on screen?

Don't think they will replace Kevin, it would be like trying to replace Roy or Norris.

Maybe they will write Kevin out as going to visit his Dad. Didn't they say in passing a while ago that Bill isn't in very good health?

Yes, they managed to write Bill out of it without ever mentioning it, so they'll probably do the same with Kevin.

I have to agree - Kevin is Kevin. another actor playing him wouldn't seem right.

Be honest, anything in bib and brace overalls with a lisp sourced from the Great Apes and Bears enclosure would suffice.
It sorted Emmerdale out for Alex.

The Australian soaps do it all the time neighbours did it with Cheryl Stark and Libby Kennedy and Home and Away did it with Ailsa Stewart - all very major long term characters. They were all briefly recast while the original actors were ill before they then resumed their roles.

I dont think the British soaps would ever do it though although i wouldnt be against it if they did.

Indeed. I can't understand why so many people on here are obsessed with recasting characters. It might be a staple for American and Australian soaps, but in the UK, soap actors become as big as the characters they play.

Could you imagine another old woman playing Rita for a few weeks if Barbara Knox wasn't available? Or someone else stepping into Dot's dresses if June Brown had enough?

Michael has played Kevin for 30 years, he's made the role his own. To bring in a new character as Kevin would make it really unbelievable and would put many viewers off. The worse that can happen is CS will lose lots of viewers. It's a silly idea.

I think more people would tune in to see 'the new Kevin Webster'.

Possibly but they will realise it sucks and turn back off.

Kevin isn't needed really anyway, his character isn't nothing too special.

What nonsense. They'd get a slight boost for the first ep or two and then viewing figures would either go back to normal or decrease.

Some people are just too bloody obsessed with recasting on here.

No. You can't replace an actor who has played the role for 30 years.
