Can anyone recommend a decent one for the house?

Depends on your budget.

I have a Princess dual stainless steel one. The containers remove as do the elements for easy cleaning.
It also means I can have oil in one side and dripping in the other.

Not sure the Princess is available anymore but there are plenty of others out there (Bush, Braun, Russell Hobbs, Breville etc).

- Dual optional
- Stainless steel. I would recommend for cleaning purposes.
- Removable element. Ditto.

How much was it roughly?

I wouldn't want to pay over £100.

It was £70. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Princess-182.../dp/B0000C75AO
Don't think it's in production anymore.

There are dual/double ones on Amazon/eBay between 60 & 90.
Single ones obviously cheaper.

And there is the option of the round plastic ones.

I love this one, it never lets me down and the chips taste better than in other fryers I have bought. I even bought a spare one in case they stop making it!

We've got one of those rotory ones, where the basket turnes when you pop it into the oil. It's supposed to make the chips less fatty cos they don't spend as long soaking up the oil.
All I know is that it makes great chips

Looks good to me. If I was buying one today it would be a dual stainless one like that. Brevillie is a good make.

They are OK but struggle with larger batches and things like bhajis don't seem to cook well when they are only frying some of the time
