What's unclear? A song that debuted at number 40 and subsequently climbed from the bottom rung of the chart Top 40, to the top position at No1. There are at least 10 within a particular 8 year period alone. This will sort the men from the boys!

I'm not going to tell you where to look, although I suppose you could scan the OCC website archive if you wanted, plus there is a place that shows "chart runs". I've used neither! Pure memory for me, plus a book!
But I will say that it will help to look pre-1990 for most of them, there that's it! ![]() Just to make it clear, I'm not meaning a 40 to 1 climb in one single go. Nothing ever did that. For example my first one by Pet Shop Boys, West End Girls, went No40 - 23 - 9 - 5 - 4 - 3 - No1.

*Pumps hard to 'Stayin' Alive' by The Bee Gees to resusitate the thread*
![]() Methinx it's best to keep the Song Themes fairly simple, but with an occasional little twist of imagination in future. Song titles that feature a 'Direction' 1) East Of Eden - Big Country |
