I live in the Granada region where we seem to have one of the better regional news programmes, but I already find myself very uninterested in news when its from another city. I especially dislike the consumer and lifestyle stories too, it isn't news, its just pointless. I'd rather they cut the 10 minutes completely than go down the proposed route. It's only worth watching until about 6.15pm anyway, thats where the bulk of the real content is.

Ofcom is currently consulting on proposed changes to ITV Network licences, including dedicated news broadcasts for more English regions; more news and current affairs in the Scottish borders region; the reduction of UTV's non-news obligation; and the creation of a Channel 3 licence for Wales.

all these rules for itv from ofcom and recently channel 5 to increase kids shows on its channels so where are all the bbc rules why do they get forced to show set kids tv on main channels etc etc. seems advert channels get hard enough time of it as it is without ofcom stiff upper lip attitude making broadcasting even harder. the bbc has so much freedom and no worries about income due to constant licence wish ofcom would lay into the good old bbc more as its high status above all others real grates. there should be more licence funded services on offer (not just the bbc) wheres the choice of alternatives!

Rated terribly last time around. If it doesn't pick up with an SNT lead in then it should be axed.

An SNT lead-in - for the first time in almost a year they've actually placed it somewhere decent. Last year they placed it after BGT and it managed just over 4m. It was being placed after X Factor in it's first series and was getting 5m.

All Star Family Fortunes rated terribly last year with only 3-4m - this year they've given it a DOI lead-in and it's rating much better, hitting 5m+.

It's captive audience stuff really isn't it. Can't pull viewers in it's self but can hold onto a good few after a big show.

4th-8th is a pretty big week so maybe it was always written as 5 episodes.The 14th 8:30pm showing must of course be the one missed for Comic Relief.

Well, it's like when people say "there was nothing on last night, I had to watch stuff from the Sky+" - that's why you've got a Sky+, surely? It baffles me how people can watch telly all night anyway, if there's one or two shows a night I want to watch that's enough. Then the telly goes off.


Well, you could argue that Masterchef is "filler" I suppose in that it fills a lot of odd slots and lasts many hours but that doesn't mean they don't expand the same amount of time and energy making it as they would a drama or sitcom. Meet The Izzards was clearly a prestige production given all the overseas filming. They didn't commission it just to have it as slack. We can't have dramas seven days a week.


It won't be. What presumably will happen will be like what the Beeb do when they have those special England-wide programmes, like the ones they did recently about the bad weather, which all had a local presenter and most of it was locally-produced, but they all included the same report about the bad weather nationally.

Not surprised - C4 Racing is another example of Jay Hunt thinking of the channel as a BBC lite rather than C4. It's racing coverage used to be completely unapologetic but from what I've seen so far it's now just a bland compromise. Ratings wise though it'll be interesting to see how Cheltenham compares in a couple of weeks - that's probably the fairest year on year comparison for the new team.


Rated well though but I agree. James Corden really seemed to struggle last night, though as has been said many times these big arenas don't do award shows any favours. I think the fact the Brits stick with him though just highlight how few up and coming presenters there are around nowadays - their used to be numerous people in contention for the job a decade and more ago but now I'd struggle to suggest a suitable replacement.

The incredible Hulk scores an early goal at Anfield, Liverpool need 4 goals in 70 minutes, could be a long night on ITV (switches over).

Better news elsewhere, Newcastle through, and Spurs' 90th minute goal sets up an excellent tie vs Inter Milan in the next round.

And of course The Morning Line will be airing every morning for the duration of the festival which is a welcome change.

Spurs v Inter Milan must be a no brainer for Itv main channel. As well will Chelsea v Ajax if Chelsea win. Both good ties and English representation looks more healthy in Europa League than Champions league this season.

Very very unlucky for ITV to be in this situation. Hard to see Liverpool coming back now and I suspect viewers may take a similar view.

Spurs v Inter though is a great tie for Europa League standards.

What will be interesting is whether C4's commitment to racing continues past 4pm and Deal or No Deal. At the very least if they're not willing to stick with it until the final race they should put the last couple of hours on More4.


P.S. Not seen it mentioned here or on the main site but Mel B has quit X Factor Australia to join... America's Got Talent, with Dannii Minogue inevitably tipped to replace her on that. Latest UK X Factor reports is that Louis stays (yet again) along with Nicole and Robbie Williams replaces Tulisa with them hoping Robbie v Gary would be enough of a hook to bring back viewers. It might work, but not with Louis still on the panel IMO.
