Thanks, very much.

An edition of Match of The Day in February 2011 attracted 5.4m.

I think they could have had an hour long One Show, the first being as it was and Madness 19:30 - 20:00, with the TVC programme on BBC 2.

Or on BBC1
19:00 One Show
19:30 The TVC programme (with a bigger budget)
21:30 EastEnders”

Hilarious. You must be a riot on the school playground.

In fact, the bulk of my viewing is split between the BBC and C5. I love the BBC as much as the next man. It's only ITV and C4 I have little time for. But I wasn't remotely interested in watching a show about the TVC closure. I can see why it's news, but not fussed by it myself. The doc sounded like something for anoraks primarily, the fact so many tuned in (almost as many as ITV's 9pm programme on Thursday) serves merely as further proof of the level of affection for the broadcaster amongst the public.

Wait a minute, wait a minute... Am I reading this correctly?

Cheap daytime repeat filler Rip Off Britain actually BEAT a live England World Cup qualifying match?!!

Surely someone's made some sort of mistake here??

I saw Tales of Television Centre last year so didn't see the need to watch a similar sort of programme, even though this building has always interested me.
Also your tastes are rather like mine, I'd say about 30 pc of my viewing is to Channel 5 now and, apart from racing, there's absolutely nothing worth watching on Channel 4 now, or their digital spin offs, which is reflected in their falling ratings. Once big hits like Countdown and CDWM have slumped in the ratings as both shows are on too much and are completely exhausted.

It was 18% actually. Not altogether surprising given that during its transmission Masterchef was facing 2.3m ITV opposition on Wednesday, as against 5.7m last night. Yes, you can highlight the genre clash with FGF on Wednesday and ask where all the foodies went, but a more important point was the exodus of men from Masterchef.

Masterchef's skew to women was 66% last night as against 58% on Wednesday. This was because the fall between those episodes among women was just -186k (-7%); among men the fall was -604k (-32%). It's quite clear the football opposition was a major factor here.

EDIT: looking at shares, on Wednesday Masterchef's share of women was 23.6%, falling to 20.6% yesterday. The share of men fell from 21.8% to 12.35% from Wednesday to Friday.

In other ratings last night, how did CBBC do from 4:30pm onwards? (as usual )

The share for ED looks high for 7pm with 30%.

I take it you mean low? The 30.7% (exc +1) it achieved was the lowest share for a Friday Emmerdale this year, except for last week's (28.2%) which was up against Comic Relief. Typically it's been 32-33% on a Friday.

Respectable for the football last night, but not a mega rating, as everyone knew this would be a walkover.
While the game isn't my bag, it has rejuvenated ITV on Tuesday nights to an extent and helped on Thursdays. I still wonder, though, if Channel 5, who have covered football before, are waiting to snap up the FA Cup.

And Gardeners World would have gone where? Or don't those viewers matter?

I should have meant for it's rating. It's had 7m and a 32-33% rating. I wondered a while ago - has any soap in the past few years gotten anything higher than 9m in the summer?

I really wouldn't take your time time and effort Neil to try and argue against GeorgeS. He's obviously taken the FGF flop pretty badly so he's desperately trying to take some weak shots at Masterchef.

The fact that the England WC Qualifier got less than The One Show and Rip Off Britain is going to sit well too.

Are you his mother? I'm sure Neil can ignore or talk to whoever he chooses. I'm simply highlighting what you'd rather ignore. No need to stop Neil playing with the rough kids though

Since you phrase it that way, no it didn't. The live football started at 8 pm and ended bang on 9.45 pm with exactly zero minutes of added time for stoppages in either half - do San Marino not have an added time scoreboard?

Thanks. So the football and Masterchef are quite complementary scheduling really. No 2 shows are going to have zero overlap. FGF must skew quite heavily female too, so not all of that audience would have watched the football last night, so really Masterchef should have GAINED female viewers and LOST male viewers and stayed at much he same overall audience level IMHO of course!

To the potting shed?

The same place as the Blue Peter garden?

How many times does TVC close?

Gardener's world could easily have been slotted into daytime or aired Saturday or Sunday.

The highest programme average since 1 January 2006 according to Attentional was coverage of the Premiership clash between Chelsea and Man Utd (Live Ford Super Sunday) from 15:33 to 18:26 on 5 February 2012.

Overnight it averaged 2.79m (13.4%), second only in its slot to BBC One (4.66m/22.3%). The peak at 17:50 was 3.97m (17.0%).

The consolidated average was 2.85m (13.3%), again peaking at 17:50 with 3.97m (16.75%). As you might expect, there was virtually no timeshift on days 2-8, so the peaks are the same, and the 60k difference between the overnight average and consolidated average is almost entirely due to tape-checking to one minute and stripping out breaks.

Haha, good to see you back in the thread though George and not just hiding away in SamuelW's thread.

I take it you won't be commenting on The One Show and Rip Off Britian getting higher numbers than the football last night?

That was the match average presumably? It looks that way from the breakdown. The average for the full Live Ford Monday Night Football programme which ran from 19:00 to 22:56 was 2.61m (11.7%) overnight, consolidating to 2.66m (10.8%). The peak at 21:50 was 4.41m (17.25%) overnight, 4.41m (17.3%) consolidated.

Chris Evans said on his radio show yesterday that last night's One Show was the first one he'd seen as a TV choice in one of the Brodsheets (can't remember which one). That will be because most nights nobody knows what's going to be on that night's One Show because it's just a hotch-potch of random features. A few more theme-editions might help them improve the ratings - and give the programme a bit more substance.

Football seems a bit low for an England world cup qualifier up against not much BBC1 competition, but my brother deliberately didn't watch last night because it knew the match would be too one-sided and he will be watching next Tuesday's game so I'm sure we'll see higher ratings then (ITV hope.)

Nice rating for something that was a little bit... what's the word? Not self-indulgent. Mainly for the benefit of TV people and the celebrities that took part.

Excellent rating for Goodbye TVC, which shows how much affection people have for this building. Must admit I was a little sad on Monday morning seeing the news from there for the last time.
Even with the behaviour of Jimmy Savile tarnishing its image somewhat, the TVC holds so many great memories and so many fantastic ratings for us on here. Its highest rating shows would have been the Morecambe and Wise Christmas shows from 1975 to 1977.

Yes, a peaktime BBC1 programme managed just over a million viewers. Pats on the backs, all round, and take some salary rises too.

Interesting BBC1 has a new profile series on next Friday opposite Piers. Its first is Miranda Hart profiling Eric Morecambe. Piers has Britt Ekland (and I mean that in a talk show sense). Interesting to see the ratings for that slot.

Another interesting clash Coronation Street v Countryfile on Sunday. Id actually fancy Countryfile if C/S was half hour from 7.30.
