I think bbc one would do better to spend an hour on drama and a hour on two half hour comedies for april to end of may next year and let itv experiment with light entertainment until the bbc department find another strictly come dancing rather than following itv into music shows and hidden camera shows etc. Its a waste of the fee.

Was a real coup getting them on - not even the Big Reunion managed it. Let's Get Ready to Rumble is storming up the charts so it would be quite sweet for ITV if they can get Ant and Dec to the top of the charts (or near enough) in the week The Voice returns.

I disagree in this case - shows like this thrive on becoming very familar with the audience and ideally it would have a longer 10-13 part run as it does feel like SNT is only just about getting going now it's a couple of shows from the end. Various scheduling commitments means that's not possible so the next best thing is two series a year in an effort for Ant and Dec to reclaim the Saturday 7pm slot as their own - even if they're only occupying it 12-16 weeks of the year.

It's a news website - it reports the news (and sport), and it's up to viewers to avoid such sites themselves if they don't want to know the result, just as they would if they want to watch Match of the Day without finding out who won.
And as today's result shows F1 is all a blatant fix anyway.

When that premiered, most people thought it would end in disaster. The format sounded ropey, Brucey imagined it as some sort of extended Generation Game skit where everyone was dreadful. They had absolutely no idea it would go on to be one of the world's biggest TV formats.
It's ludicrous to suggest the BBC should just get out of an entire genre 'cause they've had some flops. (And they've really had no more flops than ITV in LE recently). It serves nobody. And it's pretty much what ITV did with comedy, which is why that channel has been a mostly sitcom-free zone for about the last decade. Indeed, by your logic, the BBC ought to have pulled out of sitcoms a couple of years ago too because everything they commissioned was terrible. And then they'd be without Miranda and Mrs Browns Boys now. It's just a daft, risk-free way to run a TV channel - pretty soon the only thing you'd be making are period dramas and Attenborough docs!

There is a chance of them running out of ideas if they do two 8-part series each year for example. And viewers will get bored.

However, there are certain genres they are best off avoiding such as MTV style reality shows, which are best left to digital channels. Also ITV axed whole genres in the noughties- religion, arts, current affairs, regional programmes, sitcoms and stand up shows- that hurt them in the long run.

Surely by now people following any sport have worked out that if it's recorded and they don't want to know the result they don't visit the obvious web sites. Reminds me of that classic Likely Lads episode where they were trying to avoid the result of an England match until the highlights and were pursued by Brian Glover's character intent on trying to tell them. Didn't they seek refuge in a church in the end ?

Last time was 21st November 2010 (5.42m officially). It was at least higher than the episode when Mo Farah beat it, which got 3.31m (18.3%) in the overnights (inc + 1).

ITV have had some forgettable LE attempts as you say. I think part of the problem is there seems little effort to actually find new LE stars. Its very easy to stick people like Nick Knowles behind a quiz format and tick a box which is what the BBC have been doing for many years now. ITV have Ant and Dec who are the only "act" now who have enough people engaged with them to be able to do a show like Takeaway and for it to be successful-the BBC have tried with Graham Norton and Johnny Vaughan with Denise Van Outen and both attempts were eventually ridiculed and died a death. This is why the bought in The Voice I imagine as the ideas bucket was empty. The Beeb need to be proactive in finding the next Ant and Dec or at least testing if its possible and giving them some kind of platform.
Perhaps its just too easy to look at the safe ratings that the old dependables bring in (I imagine the BBC would have won most Saturdays since last August despite XF and SNT) and leave things be.

Ant & Dec like to ration their TV appearances to avoid viewers becoming bored with them. They have made a series of SNT with more than 6 episodes in it since series 5 in 2005 when they made 10 episodes and the only other series with more than 6 episodes was series 2 in 2003 which had 11 episodes. I'll wager ITV had to twist their arms to get 8 episodes this year specifically with the idea of running the final SNT back-to-back with the first BGT.
A&D will probably feel that 3 series a year (SNT, BGT and IAC) is plenty.

Doctor Who is prohibitively expensive to be repeated in primetime on BBC One, so its repeats are confined to BBC One off-peak, and to BBC Three where the repeat fees are a fraction of what they would be for BBC One.

They hid in a church, then went home, only to find the match had been snowed off. This show was comedy gold and was one of the few cases where a sequel is better than the original.
