Interesting article here about NBC's recent ratings woes http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/25/bu...elevision&_r=0

Talk about milking your cash cow. ITV2's Celebrity Juice (100th episode, Kelly Brook replacing Fearne Cotton whilst she's on maternity leave) came back from a break at 10.46pm, had a buzzer round, credits rolled at 10.49pm.

And Emmerdale below 7million

Funny how nothing gets said now but had it been EastEnders we would have 10 pages by now”

BIB - yep!

On a serious note, Corrie and Emmerdale are very likely to be just a blip whereas EE is on a constant blip at the moment. Yes Corrie does seem low but these things happen.

As for last night. What the hell happened to ITV from 8pm onwards? Look like Summer ratings - not February ratings. FGF was an utter disaster. Surely they won't ride this one out in that slot for the next few months? A total waste with a decent 8m+ Corrie lead-in. The poor rating for FGF seems to have dented Lightfields somewhat dramatically. I never thought it would start that low at all considering how well Marshlands did. I wonder how the new big Monday night drama will do with a 9m+ Corrie lead-in next week?

I think Broadchurch will do fine for ITV. With a good 5.5 -7 million viewers. It seems like a good drama in a good slot.

I think Mayday will match Ripper Street's performance for its Sunday debut, i.e. 5m overnight. How it fares for the rest of the week depends on how gripping that first episode is, but the reviews are positive.

Experience suggests that when drama meets drama, something has to give. Broadchurch has been well promoted, but then so was Lightfields and look what happened to that. However Lightfields has no star name in its cast. Broadchurch has David Tennant. And a Corrie lead-in.

Should be an interesting ratings battle.

re. EastEnders v Coronation Street: the issue isn't with the raw figure; it's with the share - the Monday night episodes of the ITV soap had 39.2% and 37.6% share while EastEnders had 32.0%. When jammed between two soap episodes, which should theoretically offer a healthy cross-channel lead in, that's isn't brilliant for EastEnders though, of course, not dreadful either.

Last night Coronation Street rated at 8.2m but the share was 36.9%,which is healthy enough. Indeed, EastEnders' Tuesday share was absolutely fine with 34.7% - that's more where I expect it to be rather than in the low 30s.

The "Duck Dynasty" reality show on A&E got a 3.9 in the 18-49 demo! It beat American Idol yesterday!

For those who don't know what the show "Duck Dynasty" is, from wiki:

Quote:
“It shows the lives of the Robertson family, who became wealthy from their family-operated business, Duck Commander, which makes products for duck hunters, primarily the duck call named Duck Commander. The Robertson men, brothers Phil and Si, and Phil's sons Jase, Willie, and Jep, are known for their long, flowing beards.”

EDIT: oh and according to tvline, 90210 is cancelled.

These sort of shows are very popular, I've not seen Duck Dynasty but I assume its similar to Pawn Stars which is a hit for History,

I've read people saying they would watch this show over any comedy out there at the moment .

Considering how important sweeps are traditionally viewed it's even more amazing NBC have held back The Voice and Revolution until afterwards.

US cable can throw up the most unlikely of hits and I never thought a show called Duck Dynasty would be beating American Idol. I knew it had been doing well but I thought it was mid-high 1's, when did it get this huge?!

I guess there could be a market in the UK - there's nothing really filling that A&E/History kind of slot over here. Obviously we have History but it's buried away down the EPG.

One further point to note, Duck Dynasty is produced by a company majority owned by ITV Studios.

I think with The Voice they're concerned about putting on back to back series. There's an argument that they'd be better protecting the only good thing they have and suffering a couple of awful months. Imagine if they burn out The Voice?

Smash is of particular disappointment. And the collapse of the Tuesday comedy hour must worry them too. Was all their recent success built purely on The Voice? Even when Idol was at its peak, FOX had other shows that did alright or that, like 24 and House, could move away from Idol and still deliver.

The break ought to do The Voice some good. It will return as Idol heads into the duller stages of the competition. The third season was more consistent than season two, not hitting the highs but not hitting the lows either. And if it delivers 3 hours of ~4.0 ratings, supports Revolution and revives the Tuesday comedies, then February sweeps will seem less important.

I'm not sure if Duck Dynasty would work over here but I could be wrong, I know History UK is planning to do a British version of Pawn Stars.

History have Vikings coming up and while I imagine it won't hit the heights of Hatfields and McCoys, it'll debut well. Their success along with A&E is astonishing.

Saw it coming really. At least the show is given an opportunity to have a proper conclusion. Kinda makes me sad Veronica Mars never got that chance back in 2007.

Blimey those are awful. Channel 5 must be way ahead of 4 in daytime, neighbours, the afternoon film and news seen to do the business most days.

What's Cooking is the perfect example of where it's all gone wrong for C4 in daytime, I know they get it for free but it's got seemingly the same concept, and is on at the exact same time as, Let's Do Lunch had on ITV. If C4's daytime includes a virtually identical show to that which ITV did eighteen months ago, what's the point?

Of course fifteen years ago Light Lunch was in that slot and it genuinely felt like something new and different, and a clear alternative to the tired fare on other channels. They need something like that again. In fact I don't know if Light Lunch ever did all that well in the ratings - and certainly it didn't hang around very long, it started in March 1997, a year later it had ended at lunchtime and become Late Lunch and a year after that it had ended completely - but it pulled in a loyal audience and presumably a very different one to other channels.

Doesn't matter if C4 are rating lower than other channels in daytime if they're doing something different, but they're not even doing that. They're doing the same as BBC1 and ITV, with lower audiences.

Thought The Wedding Shop might do a bit better, because it seemed an appealing subject cos people like looking at weddings, and it would be some agreeable fluff on a dull night. Presumably when you've seen gypsy weddings, normal weddings just seem a bit boring.

Child of our Time didn't get spectacular ratings and presumably never will but after a three year gap that's not so bad, and certainly fared better here then when it was up against Britain's Got Talent. Let's hope it returns to being an annual event.
