One thing that seems quite apparent across all day parts. The shares are quite big, but the audiences are relatively low. The amount of viewers watching the main 5 channels seems to be down quite a bit this week. Here are some figures for you all to digest;

Channel 4 was really rocky. Secret Millionaire and Secret Agent were really alarming, whereas What's Cooking recovered slightly. Countdown and Common Denominator still low, but better than Wednesday. DOND should be ringing alarm bells at Horseferry Road. With Tipping Point ending this week, it will be interesting to see if DOND climbs next week.

ITV 1 had decent share points, but the audiences were very low. Dinner Date just below 750k is really poor.

BBC 1 was moderately ok. Still don't believe that the BBC News at One got nearly 40% with less than 3m.

Some of these shares don't really sit quite right. I wonder if Mike Teevee could clarify, are these shares right or are they wrong.

Interesting to see Daybreak creeping back up and beating Lorraine in terms of %, whilst Lorraine is a little lower than it usually is. It would be interesting to know the peaks for both shows and a breakdown of the different slots. One of the issues with it is that it goes after housewives & children, so it begins to build momentum and then its the school holidays again, then its back down to 5-600k.

I don't have the breakdown, but here are the peaks.

Daybreak - 1.10m (16.5%)
Lorraine - 939k (17.7%)

BBC Breakfast peaked with 2.21m (33.7%) yesterday.

Have you got the ITV2 figures for daytime. Not seen them lately but from figures posted a while ago ITV2 was capable of getting ratings greater than what C4 is getting for much of the day now, so I wouldn't be surprised if ITV2 is currently beating them during the day.

No reason why ITV2 and 3 shouldnt beat them at certain points in the day such as the Jeremy Kyle repeat and the Heartbeat screening on ITV3.

Also would be interested to see the Snooker rating for ITV4 from 6.10 to 3pm

Last night's was dire. Angela Eagle was painful to watch, droning on about nothing in particular. Would need earplugs if you were in the audience.

Only a handful of guests are worth watching (David Starkey, Ian Hislop, George Galloway, Nigel Farage, Peter Hitchens, Melanie Phillips, Janet Street-Porter).

One way to lower ratings instantly is to have Harriet Harperson on. However, someone like Richard Littlejohn opposing her would be amusing, but the mere sight of her, Angela Eagle, Francis Maude or Danny Alexander would have me screaming out of the room. Yet you can't fault the fact this 34 year old show always wins its slot and has as much chance of being cancelled as Corrie.
OTOH DOND seems to be well and truly on the way out, a show which attracted 3.5 million at its peak is now down to 0.8 million and is a distant third in its slot. Rather like another Endemol product that outlived its welcome, maybe Channel 4 should finally say adios to Noel Edmonds.

ITV2 Daytime;

8.40am - Judge Judy - 160k (3.3%)
9.10am - Judge Judy - 201k (3.8%)
9.35am - Winners and Losers - 36k (0.7%)
10.35am - Real Housewives of Atlanta - 46k (1.0%)
11.35am - The Millionaire Matchmaker - 33k (0.7%)

Pretty obvious that Jeremy Kyle is the big draw to ITV2. Share points are relatively strong, although between 9.35am and 12.30pm, the audience seems to migrate elsewhere (probably gone to ITV). Judge Judy is still a big draw though.

Monday - 61.5k (1.0%)
Tuesday - 61.7k (1.1%)
Wednesday - 70k (1.3%)
Thursday - 55k (1.0%)

Don't know how that rates among the channel average, but it seems not all that bad.

Indeed, even the Labour die-hards seem to dislike Harriet. Forgot about Tittlejohn. He is also watchable in a car-crash way.

Fingers crossed the DOND decline continues, they'd surely pull the plug if it dipped below half a million. Noel was easier to stomach on House Party, so I would gently nudge him in that direction.

To many working class Labour voters and members Harriet is seen as a politically correct champagne socialist and out of touch. Also she is terrible when interviewed and seems like a drone.
I too relish the end of DOND, I think Channel 4, once the home of intelligent and popular quizzes like Fifteen To One, now have the kind of game show that makes ROB look good. Also no matter how many theme weeks, stunts and sob stories they have, people are now seeing through what is a threadbare format that has no skill involved being shown six times a week. DOND is my prediction for the axe this year.

I'm interested to know how All Over the Place USA has been doing so far this week now kids are back to school, as well as Dani's Castle yesterday, Sadie J the day before and Johnny & Inel, My Life and Help! My Supply Teacher on Tuesday. Considering the primetime and teatime figures are a bit low, it'll be interesting to see if CBBC's figures have improved or not.

Are these for yesterday? Tipping Point has been repeats since Tuesday I believe. That share for Countdown looks rather large. The Chase continues to hover around 3m but it's not doing any better - celebrity specials should help it a bit more. Alan Titchmarsh seems to be dropping by the day. Deal or No Deal, I don't know what CH4 are thinking putting it on all year round or however long - they are killing it.

In fact the shares seem to be a lot higher this week - the weather isn't brilliant.

Thanks! Would've guessed it'd be down on the 500k who watched the premiere. Although I must admit I wanted to turn over at certain points as I was bored. But I'll stick with this one for the time being but, after two episodes, being bored isn't a good sign and makes me think that maybe it was cancelled in America for a reason. As a said though, I'll still continue to watch just to see how the season goes.

The darts averaged 274k (1.3%) on Sky Sports 1 between 19:00 and 22:30 yesterday, almost double the slot's average share. The action peaked at 20:50 with 498k (2.2%).


Dani's Castle had 254.5k (1.8%) at 17:15. The daytime repeats were watched by 28k (0.5%) at 09:05 and 20k (0.3%) at 12:40.

Yes they are for yesterday. If you read the whole post, you'd see that I myself have questioned the validity of the share numbers. All seems a little inflated. Having said that, in Scotland, the weather has actually been pretty good. Sunny but cold.

DOND is dying. Putting it on all year round has led to burnout. I do think that with format changes, it could work. Throw in a twist or two, more tension-building, cut it back to 45mins.

Thanks for those. Shares for All Over the Place are pretty good for the morning - only good ratings there in terms of share. Dani's Castle pretty low considering Jedward were on there (maybe that's the reason people tuned off). Mostly everything in the 200k range there. Help! got 500k for it's premiere episode last year but maybe kids thought it wasn't for them - but then again it was in the prestigious 5:15 slot back then.

I think they need to revamp their daytime schedule, probably show schools programmes as mentioned before.

As the guardian media tv critic points out who was food glorious food aimed at? And another valid point he makes is who is actually following the tv schedule anymore when there is so much room for catch up television. I agree that this must affect the ratings as programmes have to be able to interest an audience for its initial live broadcast more than ever. The bbc and itv over the last couple of days figures outside the soaps have been only around 2 to 3 million. Viewers abandoning anything that is substandard or at one time would get modest ratings as catch up tv takes over from live broadcasting and viewers can choose their own schedule thanks very much carol vorderman or angela rippon.

Request please - does anyone have a snooker rating for ITV4 this week (any day from 6am to 2pm-ish, wondered how it compared to its usual daytime fare such as Minder, The Professionals, etc).

Countdown's rating of 412k (6.5%) indicates a total TV audience in its slot of 6.4 million, compared with 8.1m last Thursday and 7.4m the Thursday before. Perhaps a half-term effect?

The slot average over the last 12 months for this slot on a Thursday is 434k (6.2%), so Countdown's rating and share are pretty much in line with that.

The slot average for ITV4 is 0.8% on each of those weekdays, so the snooker outperformed that.
