Forgot about that.

Probably means that series 4 and 5, pro rata, were pretty much level. Still means no serious dent in the ratings when the show moved from Sunday to Monday.

The History Channel did the business yesterday night with The Bible miniseries (part 1) and Vikings premiering after it.

http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/201...e-year/171878/

From deadline:

Quote:
“It was a big night for History, whose 10-hour miniseries The Bible opened with 13.1 million viewers. It was followed by the debut of the network’s first original scripted series, The Vikings, which rode The Bible’s coat tales to draw 6.2 million viewers.”

Broadchurch was brilliant, hoping it will top the 6 million mark tonight, and then gradually grow through word of mouth. For all the stick ITV takes it really has provided a gem of a series.

Agreed. Broadchurch was superb- it *should* rate well and I think it will.

Some early Easter scheduling news - UTV have a local show at 1930 on Easter Sunday. So ITV won't be fully networked in primetime if UTV don't alter their schedule

Usually corrie is on Easter Sunday. Must not be this year.

Consolidated for ep 2 not out till next Monday.

Ep 1 (Sun 24/02, 18:15) - Overnight: 653k (2.9%) / 685k (3.0%), consolidating to 673k (2.9%) / 706k (3.0%)
* repeat 1 (Mon 25/02, 19:00) - Overnight: 327k (1.4%) / 372.5k (1.6%)
* repeat 2 (Sat 02/03, 12:45) - Overnight: 152k (1.9%) / 175k (2.2%)

Ep 2 (Sun 03/03, 17:45) - Overnight: 642k (3.1%) / 679k (3.25%)

Good retention in the overnights for episode 2 despite an earlier start, and it earns a higher share as a result. Still fairly low but I don't know what Channel 5 would have realistically expected. At least it's not collapsed. I wonder if it would actually benefit if it aired directly after Time Team finished, rather than 20 minutes later?

Looking at overnight ratings on BBC Two only, the six episodes so far have had a 60% male skew (62% among adults), a surprisingly down-at-heel 39% ABC1 skew (on BBC HD it's 58.5%), and a 13.9% skew in each of the 4-15 and 16-34 demos.

Bloody hell, i thought Vikings would do well but not this well! The Bible proved to be another hit after Hatfields and McCoys, you have to credit Nancy Dubuc who I'm surprised hasn't been poached by a network.

Maybe they've realised since the soap abandoned Sundays over 5 years ago, ratings aren't that good for one off Sunday episodes. Actually moving CS back to its traditional days seems to be paying off.

I read somewhere that NBC passed on "The Bible" . If true, they could really use it now!!

It won't rate well enough for people on here, reading the posts today it is so obvious many want Broadchurch to be a flop and can't wait to gloat about it tomorrow. Even if it beats Mayday it still won't be good enough.

With major drama on both channels, Broadchurch will not get a rating that matches some people's expectations (bear in mind all the usual 'drop off by episode 2' factors and 'Corrie lead in' cards that will come into play).

Basically it'd probably have to get about 7-8m to be declared a success!

If Mayday managed 6.2m against the established Selfridge, and with zero publicity, the much trailed Broadchurch, advertised on every billboard and newspaper around, should be getting 7m, yes.

And it has a Corrie lead in.

Zero publicity worked in Maydays favour as people had to watch it before switching it off

Mayday was relatively well received and has the upper hand in that it's a stripped show - people have the opportunity to catch up on Broadchurch across the week (same with Mr. Selfridge) whereas if you get behind with Mayday you'll be constantly trailing.

It could do anything to be honest but 5m wouldn't be a disaster considering the opposition is exceptionally similar. It'd just have to grow.

I've filled in the gaps for Mr Selfridge and added exc +1 figures:

Exc +1: 8.54m, 8.22m, 6.98m, 6.97m, 7.02m, 7.38m, 7.22m, 6.97m
Inc +1: 9.36m, 8.95m, 7.60m, 7.73m, 7.76m, 7.79m, 7.88m, 7.71m

Average (across 8 episodes): 7.41m (24.55%) / 8.10m (26.8%)

EDIT: Score had already given the week 8 rating.

Considering the subject matter (the reason I didn't watch), I think if Broadchurch gets between 5 and 6 million viewers it can be regarded as a success. If ITV achieve good figures for its drama it can only be a good thing for everyone. Good for ITV, good for the viewers and good for the BBC because it prevents them from being complacent.
