People are saying that networks should slash episodes from 22 to 15 or something and get a new ratings system...

First of all, who will pay for this new ratings system? Will this ratings system just get the same results?

If they cut the number of episodes, won't the network just commission more shows to fill the gap or new (horror) reality shows? Even then you'll get a lot of cancellations...

Some are saying that the ad's people will finally see that they're not getting their money's worth paying these ad dollars. So then everything will subscription based? Like HBO, Showtime, etc?

I'd rather the network fight over carriage fees for the next 50 years.

Interesting to note that Alan Titchmarsh has also dropped quite considerably, both with not having Tipping Point on after it but also without Dickinson's Real Deal on before it which usually had over 1m.

I wouldn't be surprised to see time called on Loose Women at some point in the near future too.

Super ratings for the CL. Wasn't expecting a 9m average, nevermind an 11m peak! Great stuff! Mayday held firm from Monday and has probably found its base now. Emmerdale and EE neck-and-neck both on 7m. EE obviously dented by the footie.

Some people say that this match would have got more viewers if it had been shown on BBC1. Maybe, but that's not going to bother ITV. 9m average and 10.7m peak is a great result for them. Although the result on the pitch was a bit of a bummer.

Never mind, ITV, Arsenal to the rescue next week.

Doctor Who returns on 30 March and has 8 episodes, so unless it has a break for some reason, it will finish on 18 May, the same night as Eurovision and a week before the CL final. As for The Voice, current indications are that the competition will be in the battle or knockout stages by 25 May.


Ant and Dec will get a 15-minute headstart from 19:00 while BBC One shows news. I agree it's better than the alternative of showing a (probably) pointless rugby match on BBC One.

It had a consolidated peak of 8.28m (52.0%) at 16:35 on Saturday 17 May 2008. Looking at the breakdown, the consolidated match average was in the region of 7.3m (51%).


On Monday 26 February 2012 the whole Cup Final transmission from 15:00 to 19:14 averaged 5.90m (30.2%). The consolidated peak was 10.54m (40.9%) at 18:40.


787k (3.1%) / 866k (3.4%).


Up a touch on Monday: 238k (2.2%). Now above the slot average share.

It's late at night, can I talk about The Voice UK's scheduling?

I'm trying to puzzle out what the BBC will do. My thinking is it has to start on 23 March to fit it all in. We have been told the following (some things more certain than others):

- More blind audition shows than the 4 last year (implying more battle shows than the 2 last year)
- "Between 15 and 20" contestants per team initially (up from 10 last year)
- New feature: 'steals' at the battle stage (up to 4 losing contestants saved by rival coaches)
- New knockout round after the battles, whittling 28 down to 12 to go through to the live shows
- First live show starts on 8 June (night of BGT final)
- Only three live shows

Here is how I think it might pan out:

I've really been thinking about this too hard but it looks OK to me. Any thoughts? Any possible ITV spoilers? Under this scenario, BGT would start on the night of the fourth audition show.

Hi rzt. Death in Paradise on 26 February had a consolidated rating of 7.4955m (27.07%)

I'm happy to report that the issue with Great Night Out on 25 January has been resolved: it received a consolidated rating of 3.0662m (10.81%) / 3.4049m (12.00%) (exc/inc +1).

Thanks NeilVW, I've updated my previous post to take into account those two ratings. GNO episode 3's timeshift seems a little low with it only timeshifting 496k, even though all other episodes did 620k-780k. I suppose its percentage timeshift compared to the overnight was +19%, which is about the same as episodes five and six, though lower than episodes 1, 2 and 4 (23-25%).

No problem. Looking again at GNO, it's not giving me the Live and Timeshift components separately as it normally does for consolidated data, and I have just worked out that the figures I quoted are actually for the 21:00-21:55 slot (not 21:00-21:57) and without stripping out the ads. In other words, it just includes 7-day recordings but without those two tape-checking adjustments. The final figure (if we ever get it) will undoubtedly be a bit higher.

Sorry about that, I should have looked more closely the first time.
