Whether or not Adrian quit The One Show and GMTV was still on air, I do think it would be basically what Daybreak is now and would be rating similarly.
The Adrian & Christine era of Daybreak may be the most watched but that was down on the year or so of GMTV before it. ITV Breakfast has been in decline for years and nothing seems to be halting it. Likewise if Adrian & Christine were still there I think it would still have similar ratings to what it is getting today.
The problem with it is simply because its rubbish. Monday was a good day to showcase what they can do to see if any viewers would be interested in switching but it got absolutely slated on Twitter. The problem is it doesn't know what type of programme it wants to be and it is far too dated. They address it with every relaunch but then they end up going back to how it was. Whilst they continue to do that, nothing will change.
To be honest they should just hand over to ITN from 6-8am to produce a lighter news programme (they can do it for Channel 5) because ITV are obviously incapable, and then bring Lorraine on a bit earlier which is when Daybreak goes into fluffy overload anyway.
