Wouldn't it just be better if all the games and draws were rigged to ensure the best tv ratings?
Terrible idea. Ken |

ITV ran a short teaser for Britain's Got Talent a few minutes ago. Seems very early given that it isn't starting until mid-April! Looks like they want to build up hype early.
Also, what with the FA Cup lead-in and the improved slot Dancing on Ice should rate fairly well tonight - comfortably above 7m you'd think. Indeed, the final could well be up on last year's final (which averaged 7.4m with +1) which would be good going. |

Hoping Channel 5's Sunday movies rate well today.
Also hoping Person Of Interest gets just above a million or 900k atleast! More people should be watching this, although, Channel 5's late scheduling have turned many away I presume...Hope they fastrack Season 2 in a different timeslot with added promotion. |

I think the Cup Replay (MU v CHE) might take place on either the 19th or 20th of March. England play San Marino on the Friday, and being realistic, will probably win. Therefore, they could have the game on the Wednesday and it wouldn't be a disadvantage to either Man Utd or Chelsea's England players (you could easily name a starting XI without a player from either team). If they had it on the Tuesday, it would make Chelsea's season even more exhaustive. Playing Thursday-Sunday-Tuesday would probably take it's toll.
IMO, it's better being played on the 20th of March. Get it over and done with before the International break. |

Interested to see how Tesco Mum of the Year awards rated at lunchtime as I thought it was probably their best in-house production yet. I suppose an awards show stitched together with VTs can't be the hardest show in the world to make, but considering the awards only took place yesterday I was impressed with how slickly done it all was. As for Person of Interest, now it's 10pm bound not 8pm as previously expected it's going to be hard for it to make much of an impact going forwards. I was thinking if it continues on its current disappointing trajectory, one option could be to make this a 5USA exclusive series from Season 2 onwards. It could be a big hit for them. In the mean time, C5's search for their next big US hit must continue, as unfortunately it doesn't appear as though Person of Interest is it. And next time there must be lots more marketing (including on other channels), no 10pm series premiere and no midseason hiatus ! |

E4 (22:40) - 110k (0.8%) / 204.5k (1.4%) That's a bonkers +1 audience, proportionally speaking. Quote:

I remember "the boy in the striped pyjamas" did very well for them. These British films are very good for the channel.
BBC Two should do more themed nights on saturdays. Ken

I remember that BBC2 used to do themed nights quite often in the early 90s - I can remember Birth Night and Radio Night from 1993. Nice to have a bit of an alternative from the dross on the main channels

At the end of DOI Phil said see you next year. He seems certain. Though Chris Dean was merely 'hopeful' earlier in the show when they mentioned doing a special commemoration of the perfect score bolero's 30th.
Great final - though - with an extraordinary end.

It's not just England playing on that Friday; a host of nations are and they want to have their players by the Tuesday to train.
Chelsea have dictated their own season with numerous poor performances. A poor performance in Europe has left them with more fixture congestion, than they didn't need. The blame for any replay lies in the hands of both sets of players, and tops of what has been a poor season for Chelsea so far. |

And Chelsea and Man Utd famously don't have any foreign players at all.
Not that extraordinary - one of the consistently two best performers won, and Beth certainly had the better final routine. Matt was better overall both on the night and on the series but I think the judges didn't do him any favours tonight by overscoring his routines - neither justified a perfect score. I do think Dancing on Ice is a certainty for next year as there is just nothing fighting for it's airtime at the moment so ITV might as well stick with it for another year. The 30th anniversary of the Bolero will help sway ITV - but it's what producers now do to try and stop the rot (if they can do anything). I wouldn't be surprised if they went for some kind of All Star series. One positive from this series though has been it's probably the best judges panel they've had. It never made any sense having Karen sit on the sidelines, while Ashley Roberts has probably filled the role of "celeb who knows nothing about ice skating but we'll get her to judge anyway" better than any of her predecessors. |

Following the successes of Last tango in Halifax and Death in Paradise, Shetland could become bbc1's next surprise drama hit. Little buzz, little hype but I think it could rate brilliantly with the older crime-loving audience and get very good viewing figures especially after Call the midwife. It looks more accessible than Mayday and that got 6.2million this time last week.

Beth's bolero was IMO the best ever on the show. But I am near certain the media will bill it as a shock result created by his fans not bothering to vote. An all star show could work as a fitting finale as I doubt ratings will turn around now and it would be a good way to go out. |

The Daily Mail today have a full page splash on Broadchurch (p.17) with a large Jaci Stephen review and several stories about the show - notably the extraordinary lengths they went to to keep the ending secret.
Locked safes, uncopyable script paper, telling NONE of the cast about the conclusion during all 5 months filming and only revealing it to those who had to know the night before actual filming - leading to a large betting ring involving cast friends and family on the outcome. Not even Peter Fincham was told until last week. Wonder if that will intrigue viewers enough to boost ratngs? |

I'm well aware that's it's international week, but it's the English FA that organise the FA Cup, not other football associations!

The blame for any replay lies in the hands of both sets of players, and tops of what has been a poor season for Chelsea so far. And Chelsea's season could have been worse - they could have finished in fourth place in their Champions League group and be out of Europe entirely. They shouldn't be punished because they're contesting a UEFA competition. Of course, they could go out to Steua Bucharest - then this conversation would be nul and void. |
