The best hob

Apologies if this thread requires moving.....

I own a gas hob. I hate it for the following reasons:

1.I often catch myself on flames
2. It is really difficult to clean
3. It is really difficult to control temp on a low simmer without the flame going out and clicking to self-ignite

But I love:

The speed of heating and the instant heat off

So, the question is,
I am switching to electric. Is there an electric hob that is as fast as gas, ring goes cold, like gas temp, and is old saucepan friendly??

Thanks so much
Yesterday I did a Mrs Doubtfire and my boobs set alight. The bra got it though, not me.

Time for the Gas hob to go

When I got a kitchen re-fit I was looking at all sorts of hobs. I decided that the only way is gas. So sorry I am not much help.

This is what I ended up with, is a dream to clean due to the glass base.

induction is about the fastest you will get with electric. the problem is they are not cheap and you need cookware that will work with them, in other words they need to be magnetic.

The problem with Induction is that they don't stay at a steady temperature, like same Gas or normal electric, they heat up and then switch of and when the temperature drops they switch back on on again. so say you are boiling spuds, you will see water bubble, then stop for a bit and then bubble again.

i got a stand alone induction hob, not built in, but here are some built in ones

the big advantage is apart from being cheaper to use is that since the hob don't heat up, nothing gets burnt on, so easy to clean and they don't get hot.

How on earth do you set fire to yourself more than once? Are you safe to use any form of cooker?

I've got an electric Belling hob. When I moved into my house 13 yrs ago, there was only electric in kitchen.

At first it took a bit of getting use to, it a couple of minutes to warm up, I've got a touch sensitive one, you get to know which number you're comfortable to cook with. For example, my setting goes up to 9 but I usually cook on 7 but simmer between 4-6, if that makes sense.

I cooked on gas last week, after many years, at my niece's cooker and it got hotter quicker and frightened me a little, but that's just me!

You'll get used to cooking with electric, it's just a case of adapting. Although I love my Belling, I would get a Neff next time.

My MIL has an electric cooker and hate cooking on it - infact have bought a stand alone induction which I leave at her house. Can't turn the damn thing down immediately when things start to boil -- hate it

I have a similar gas Neff hob but chose a Neff Electric Fan Assisted Oven and love both of them.

Another vote for Neff gas hob. I'd recommend going for a 5 ring 700mm if you can fit it in, and definitely the thicker cast iron pan supports.
