I'm in no way a fan of these bands, but to me Westlife, The Script, The Killers, etc. are no worse names for a band than Def Leppard!

Yes, but the reason they've chosen that is to represent a triangle (the Delta character) like this Δ. In Windows you can probably achieve the same thing with Alt + number (ascii codes).

As for why, there's a line in one of their songs: "triangles are my favourite shape, three points where two lines meet".

The Beatles, is a strange name for a band, i think, but they are such a huge band you don't think of it being strange.

Also

Jilted John
Toy Dolls
Men Without Hats
Men At Work
Mental As Anything
Rockers Revenge
Monsoon
Bow Wow Wow
Haysi Fantayzee
Bronski Beat
Communards”

They took a new meaning when they were once accidentally called Men Without Heads!

An 80s band whose name got on my nerves before they music did in 1981-83 was Spandau Ballet.

Some excellent bands in the 60s had rather basic names, such as Cream, the Animals, the Monkees and even the Beatles!

I was referring to Control-Alt-Delete. On Macs the Alt key is known as the Option key. I always call it the Option key.

It's just a play on the word 'beat' though.

Not such a strange name in its day. Many of the American vocal harmony groups of the fifties named themselves after birds, e.g. the Penguins, the Swallows, the Orioles, the Crows, the Flamingos, the Larks, etc. Buddy Holly decided on a variation on this theme, and named his band after insects rather than birds, i.e. The Crickets.

Lennon, McCartney and Harrison were huge fans of (Buddy Holly and) the Crickets, and so decided to also name their band after insects, i.e. Beetles, eventually altering the spelling to Beatles to emphasise that they were a band with a Beat.

Clearly the Option key is sometimes called the Alt key. It says so in that link I posted and I've read it elsewhere too. I'm not a Mac user so I don't know or care why that's the case.

It's labelled as Alt but most Mac users refer to it as the Option key. There are some differences between Mac and Windows keyboards.

Wasn't there a group in late 70s early 80s who had about a million name changes involving the word "Spizz"?
I remember song "Where's Capt Kirk" by Athletico Spizz 80 but I'm sure they were variously Spizz, Spizzles, Spizz Energy etc etc.
All adds up to a litany of stupid names I reckon.

Duran Duran were named after a character in Barbarella. Culture Club were named to reflect the different cultures that the four members came from

WASP usually means White Anglo Saxon Protestant!

I think they were Spizz Energi when they released that song - my brother had it - it was in a yellow picture sleeve with an Andy Warhol-ish pic of Kirk on the cover. Ahh, those were the days.

Thatcher on Acid, actually I find that quite funny, but the music was dire, some middle class lefties rapping over a punkish guitar.
