I'm puzzled that Adele didn't win. Due to her grammy's and massive worldwide sales, surely she should have won. Or did they make up an award for 1D to keep the kids happy.

I think your last sentence is spot on. I knew 1D were going to win this since the category was announced. Shame that the Brits are simply too snobby to award the boys the best group award and so fob them off with a fake, meaningless award. But if it keeps their fans and their team of executives happy, I guess it's done the job.

It was based on total world wide record sales for last year (singles + albums), they sold more than Adele. She sold more albums though, but not singles.

I was surprised that the whole night went without them winning, but once they announced the global success award, you knew it was theirs so that it wouldn't look a joke that the biggest boy band won nothing.

They were not the favourites to win the award, Adele was. Everyone was convinced Adele had it in the bag.

Tbh if were talking about last year One Direction did better than Adele worldwide as Adele did not really release anything last year apart from Skyfall 2011 was when she dominated .

I'm not going to lose sleep over it, I was just pointing out the fanbase and what they thought.
Good for them I don't get the hate, I know they seem to be everywhere but they're a boyband. It's not like boyband hysteria is new. One Direction do fun, pop songs. They don't pretend to be a major groundbreaking artist. I'm not their biggest fan but really, people act outraged when a popular band wins. It's to be expected I'm sure.

I doubt many people are annoyed. I think people are just rightly questioning the validity of an award that basically says 'You have sold lots of records worldwide in case you didn't already realise' before handing it to a group of young men with no chance of winning a 'Best' award. It's a snobby, pretentious Brit Awards move all over, but is entirely representative of an industry that is drowning in a sea of mediocre balladists and banjo players.
The Brit Awards are a bit of a joke, and the American performers put ours to shame tonight.
I can't understand why Adele didn't win. Global success isn't just commercial one. Golden globe win, another Grammy and probably she will win Oscar too..and what 1D got? teen choice award or something?
