(no idea if she won this year, but I don't see the Brits pannel minding giving Rihanna a brit while they would more than drag their feet to do the same for 1D).
But I belong to those who really thought the global success was for Adele, to make up for cutting her speech last year.
It's funny how different the point of views about this award were.
And as always, thank you for your kind reply Elly.”
Rihanna didn't actually win Best International Female, Lana Del Rey did (which was probably the only win of the night I was happy about - I absolutely love Lana!) But I think the difference is, Rihanna was actually a contender for her award because despite her not writing her own music and releasing stuff that would be considered as pop, she is treated a lot more credibly as an artist for whatever reason. I would say it's because her music has a much more grown-up sound than 1D's.
And yes, it is quite funny that so many people thought Adele was a shoo-in for the award. I declared from the start (in another thread on here, can't remember which one) that the award was clearly going to go to 1D. Nice to be proven right for a change.

Also 1D have had 2 #1 and top-selling albums in the US.
However, I do agree that the Brit Awards are a joke especially with Emeli winning everything. However, I realized this back in 2008 when Leona was nominated for four awards yet received NONE! Despite the fact that she was topping the charts globally in that year both with Bleeding Love and her album Spirit. She was also the first British female to top the US charts in 20 years! Yet she lost the best female award to nobody Kate Nash, international breakthrough to now-nobody MIKA (and less successful at the time), to Take That's WORST single AND to that horrible punt at an album by the Artic Monkeys.
Such music snobbery! Could not believe it!”
At what part did I say that they didn't deserve to win Best Group? If you read my other posts on here you'll see that I actually did want 1D to win Best Group, mainly because I can't stand Mumford and Sons. I hated their little sneery "Oh, we never thought we'd win this being in the same category as 1D" followed by a snide little laugh afterwards when they gave their acceptance speech. Ugh. I just knew from the start when they were 'nominated' for Global Success that that was how they would keep the fans and SyCo happy, and not through recognising their musical achievement.
But this is my point - The Brit Awards aren't something to be taken seriously anymore. I'm going to go so far as to say that the Brit music scene is currently in a real mess, with a load of pretentious blokes with guitars, and Emeli Sande, dominating the charts and award ceremonies like this. I couldn't help thinking last night that if someone not from the UK was to watch the Brits, they'd be wondering what the hell is going on with British music. It all feels so slick, cynical and personality-free nowadays. There's no variety. Justin Timberlake and Taylor Swift were absolutely phenomenal when they performed - that's what we need to be aiming for. I've made no secret of the fact that I don't 1D's music is good enough to justify their success, and it needs to be a lot better considering how much money they've got to invest in it. As soon as they get that right, I think people will give them a far easier time and they can be a group that a lot more people from Britain are proud of.
