Alarm on ipad 2

Why is the sound on my alarm not going off ive tried two alarm apps and it goes off but with no sound so its not waking me up

I use the alarm on the clock. It works.

Have you muted it?

Why does the iPad have to be switched on for the Alarm to work, it's the same with the iPhone !!!

Is the volume tuned down? Does sound play when using other apps?

no its been very high and still not gone off the sound was fine on youtube the other day
