The judges are there to judge and give feedback, and if someone gets a negative comment it's so they can go away and work on it, not say 'you come out and try it'

I think Luke comes over as pretty immature anyway. I wonder if his learning difficulties at school are part of that.

I can't see that biting back at one of the judges does Luke any favour. In any competitive sport you need to take the negatives as well as the positives. Did he have learning problems?

There is a world of difference between putting on a pair of ice skates and going from one side of the rink to the other without falling over and having to put in a performance like is expected of the slebs with no previous experience. As Luke says, I'd like to see him try it. I don't take much notice of what Philip says when it comes to Jason, he has historically found a way to defend him even when he has been at his worst.

The judges may be there to judge and give feedback but Jason does so in such an obnoxious and offensive way that it isn't really surprising that the slebs take offense and it isn't as if he knows anything about skating (whether he can or not). That much is obvious from his critique.

Jason & Ashley are there to judge performance skills rather than skating skills, and whether he likes it or not, Luke hasn't yet learnt to perform. At best his remark was very immature. If he can't deal with criticism then he shouldn't have agreed to take part in a show in which criticism from judges plays a large part.

Ah, I did wonder if Luke had learning difficulties or similar. It would explain his difficulties with criticism. Not that I'm a fan of Jason, but everyone knows what he's like, he's the same for all the other contestants.

I tend to agree with Jason, the lad does seem a bit truculent at times. Mind you, much as I often agree with what Jason says, he does go and put his hoof in it with bad taste comments which spoils all his perceptive comments

I've taught kids with these problems; neither are excuses for behaving like a spoilt child in the face of criticism.

He looks very confident and nice to see him having fun - although I wouldn't have recognised him he looks quite handsome there!

I admire Luke's willingness to stand up for himself against the judges but I don't really think the way he's going about it is doing him any favours. Still, he's clearly making improvements in spite of what looks like a disinclination to listen, and his public vote's been strong so far, so perhaps this is all a storm in a forum teacup

I remember the whole 'can Jason skate or not' thing coming up ages ago and it being revealed that he'd taken some low grade exams to get a feel for the ice. I think Craig Revel Horwood did a similar thing when he was first asked to judge SCD because he didn't have a ballroom background.

But I wouldn't call what's on that tape any sort of decent skating to make a judgement from. That's standing up and moving about on two feet with some static dancer's tricks thrown in. Luke's a lot more advanced with the blades than that - so perhaps he was right to question whether Jason's ability could match his

I really don't like that comment... people use it on every reality TV show where the judge is not a performer themselves (like when people say it to Simon Cowell ).

Always gets the simple audience hollering their approval, so not surprised someone like Luke thought it was a brilliant thing to say.

It's an utterly stupid comment, completely not the point, but simpletons just don't get it.

I think that there is a difference between people passing comment on someone like Simon Cowell and someone like Jason.

In relation to Simon Cowell, whilst he might not be a singer himself, he is nonetheless recognised as having expertise in the music industry and so might be considered qualified to judge what he is judging.

Jason has zero recognised expertise as a skater let alone as an ice dancer. When has he ever commented in his critique on whether the slebs have used the correct edges, for example, or whether their jumps were under or over rotated.

I know the retort to that from many will be that Jason isn't there to judge the skating but to judge performance. However, Robin and Karen can judge both skating and performance. What is the point of having a judge who can only do half the job.

I suspect that his lack of knowledge and experience might be more tolerable if he wasn't such an offensive individual but he is so it isn't.

I agree that Cowell has more of an idea about singing than Jason about ice dancing, but he is still there to judge (in whatever capacity he has been employed to do) and the celebrity is still there to skate. I just think it's an entirely pointless retort. Not that I'm saying your reply or reasons are pointless!!! Difference of opinion

Truculent is the word for it. imo only one competitor from either SCD or DOI has mastered the art of toppling the judges from their self built pedestal and that was, of course, the incomparable John Sergeant.

Of those who have tried and failed Ann Widdecombe (SCD) sticks out like a sore thumb and Roxanne Pallet and Luke are front runners in DOI. Clearly both came into the competition with an "I'll put Jason in his place" attitude but neither have the gift of repartee needed to get the viewers onside. Indeed quite the contrary.

Luke needs to learn his place: he is a competitor (and not a particularly good one) - Jason is a judge (some might say not a particularly good one.) Nevertheless their roles are clearly defined - one judges and the other is judged.

I'm no fan of Jason and it's clear that many of his supposedly witty but insulting criticisms are rehearsed but even if a reversal of roles should occur (Luke judge - Jason competitor) I'd put good money on Jason coming out on top.

Yes, maybe so but if Jason is rude to any of the competitors then he shouldn't be surprised if they are rude back, and he is very rude to Luke on occasions.

In what setting and how did you deal with it?

Then I must be simpleton to you, but if Jason were unstintingly polite whilst being critical I'd be less inclined to relish him getting an occasional taste of his own medicine.
