Although I love the track I don't think it was the sole reason why the film did so well. I was in India when the film came out and the cinemas were packed with people waiting to see the film. I went with with some locals who hadn't even heard of Adele. Personally I thought the song fitted the film amazingly well.

Yes, as long as it wasn't Cilla Black singing it then people would have gone to see it

I think the fact that it had Sam Mendes behind it was why it was a huge success.

I don't know, because I don't like her singing voice, and the song itself is nothing special. Good film.

Skyfall is 143 minutes long. Adele sings for something like 3 minutes of the film.
So no. |

There were a lot of names attached to it. Her name is only attached to three minutes of it. That's really not enough to affect a film's success. People who were only interested in Adele would have just bought the single and skipped the film.

If people liked the song all they needed to do was turn on the radio. Very much doubt it contributed to its success.

A good song, a big hit, a huge star etc. It didn't do it any harm.
The theme song has always been part of the whole Bond deal, and Skyfall certainly did its job of both soundtracking the film and announcing its arrival. Would it have been as successful without it? Lord knows. You can speculate and pick apart something's popularity forever once you start questioning single factors. But it's obvious they got a lot of things right about Skyfall, and I'd say Adele's inclusion was one of them. |

The theme being sung by Adele did not contribute towards how well the movie did. I don't really know any material by Adele, she does seem to have a good voice though. The Skyfall song for me was a bit bland despite the obvious effort put into it.
Personally I also thought the movie wasn't that great either. I was expecting Javier Bardem to be a lot better as a bad guy amongst other things. |

What a stupid question.
My mind boggles at some of the dumb waste of time threads here. |

Must you be rude? It was fair question have you heard of star power? It's why you have cameos on TV shows for ratings! Adele's Skyfall video on Youtube has 88 million views. For some the fact she was involved may have swayed it.

The question is: would the song, and by extension, Adele have been as successful if the film wasn't successful. The answer is: no. The song isn't strong enough to stand-alone.

If having Adele associated with this film was to make me take any action - it would have been to not see it. I cant stand her voice - and the song is a dreary and uninspired mess.

Don't really know who Adele is - I've never heard anything by her apart from Skyfall. And it really is one of the worst Bond movie themes for a long time - Chris Cornell and even Jack White piss on it.
So, the film did well despite the girl who sings the theme tune dirge. Perhaps people have now started liking Adele because she has sung a Bond theme tune? It certainly made Lulu a household name... |

Most of the later Bond films have poor theme songs imo. Goldeneye was alright, but the efforts by Garbage, Sheryl Crowe, Madonna, Adele, and whoever did the QoS one were all crap.
The Casino Royale one isn't bad, but it's nowhere near as good as the best of them (ie Diamonds Are Forever for class, Live and Let Die for excitement). |

I was discussing Bond theme songs with a
friend yesterday. We agreed that of the least memorable ones, you could easily have the 'Skyfall' song, along with the AHA one and for sure the misbegotten Duran Duran one! And on another note,I think you meant to ask 'Would Skyfall HAVE been...' and not 'OF been'! |
